After my previous article I’ve had more thoughts on the nature of reality and how to go about reconfiguring reality through movement.
We perceive our environment through our body and our mind turns it into something comprehensible which we then enact in our everyday life, so everything we know, understand and experience is personal and real as is everybody else’s life experience.
The movement patterns we develop are closely linked to our concepts and belief systems. If we have a stiff mind, we have a stiff body.
I think it’s vital we question everything, to take nothing for granted as a fact. We need to think for ourselves, observe and heed the heart response within all situations, there’s no one size fits all.
I also feel we need to take ourselves back to our primary learning time, our infancy and into our early movement years.
This is when we were truly open to simply what is, what is happening in the moment and learning to take possession of the situation through movement.
Start by lying on your back with your feet standing and your knees bent. The humble act of laying one’s body upon the earth opens us to the silent active exchange of energy that we as earthlings need to swing us back into balance, to reset. The recuperative power of laying upon the ground is underestimated.
Focus on the feeling of your breath moving your body, slowly become aware of the opposing nature of the breath, the wave like motion of expansion and contraction and then focus on the slight almost imperceptible feeling in your knees and the shifting tilt of the pelvis as you breathe.
This is the natural movement of your body and is evident in everything you do; walk, bend, lift, reach, living your life. Our body is perfectly designed through situational evolution to self heal, self adjust, self suffice, it just needs our acknowledgement.
Where movement is painful it’s usually because there’s tension in the muscles from holding the body stiffly, inhibiting the free flowing breath motion throughout the body.
A mind concerned with perfection and righteousness creates a body controlled to push, hold, tense, stretch, suck, turn on/off.
Big changes occur when we let go of the tension, it’s like putting down a heavy bag. It sounds easy but when one doesn’t know what letting go feels like and how to do it, the mind must open a little to allow the passage of more subtle sensory awareness, the uncomplicated, non judgmental observation of feeling the breath in the body, flowing from feet to head and back as a perpetual act of motion, effortless, easeful and pleasurable.
We can get to a point where we give up trying to control the body to behave in a way that’s been indoctrinated into us and allow the elastic flux and flow to become our reality and expression.
Develop awareness of how your body moves naturally, how to position yourself at the right time to move effortlessly from sitting, lying, standing, walking, running, lifting, crouching.
When the body and mind move together in harmony, we are infused with expanded awareness of what is possible, available and no longer fear stepping into the unknown. Every time you turn your compassionate awareness to the feeling of your body you strengthen your connection to source, infinite awareness.
