How Chiropractic Creates Change by Dr. Eric and Angela Slead

Working closely side-by-side everyday to bring the chiropractic message to the community, we are grateful to say we work in an area of healthcare that is going to revolutionise health and the way we view health, it’s incredible! You’re thinking….how so? Well, chiropractors locate and correct subluxations – but chances are you’ve never heard of this before. It’s so amazing that something so destructive to health and the cause of so many health problems is almost unknown to the community!

In 1895, DD Palmer delivered the first chiropractic adjustment to a janitor named Harvey Lillard who had been partially deaf for 17 years. A few days later, the janitor reported that his hearing seemed significantly better. This pivotal discovery took place in Davenport Iowa – our dear hometown, immersed with chiropractic history, where we both grew up and eventually met each other. When you think about what happened, it’s simple to connect the adjustment to the restoration of Lillard’s hearing, starting with the big picture of health and what true health really means.

The founder of Chiropractic went on to write, “I feel it my bounden duty to not only replace displaced bones, but also teach others, so that the physical and spiritual may enjoy health, happiness and the full fruition of our earthly lives.” The term “health” is used so much these days that the true meaning of the word is easy to lose sight of. To fully experience true health, we need 100% function and healing in our bodies. True health is not only the absence of disease, but when the parts of us (physical, spiritual, social) are all well. After the results of Harvey Lillard’s adjustment, DD Palmer also coined the term “Innate Intelligence”, and it’s this concept that chiropractors honour and work with everyday.

Dr. Richard Cabot with Harvard Medical School has said, “The wisdom of the body is responsible for 90% of the hope of patients to recover. The body has a super wisdom that is in favour of life, rather than death. This is the power that we depend on for life. All doctors are responsible for letting their patients know of this great force working within them.” Innate Intelligence is responsible for the organization, maintenance and healing of the body and it is embodied within our brain and spinal cord. In order for our brains to communicate with our organ systems and cells, messages from the brain travel down through the brain stem, spinal cord and eventually to the nerves that control each particular organ. This amazing powerhouse is housed within our spines, a perfectly designed structure made up of bony vertebrae. The design of the spine is to protect this delicate innate intelligence motorway. Unfortunately, our lifestyles allow for thoughts, traumas and toxins to misalign our spines – or simply, move the bones out of proper alignment putting pressure on nerves. When the bones put pressure on these nerves, we now have a decreased flow of nerve supply and the brain cannot fully communicate with the body diminishing innate intelligence and your body’s ability to heal. This is what we call subluxation. The damaging effects that subluxation has on the body can present itself in many ways, such as in the form of common symptoms like pain or chronic disease – but sometimes, you may not feel it at all! Just because symptoms are common, it doesn’t make them normal. When the body expresses symptoms, it is a warning signal to us that there may be something wrong with function in the body.

We must remember that we are all designed to be extraordinary. At Premier chiropractic, we have a large vision – to change the way the Sunshine Coast view and manage their health through chiropractic principles. Chiropractic adjustments are not crude, but extremely specific. But what can chiropractors cure? The answer is NO Chiropractor can cure anything. Whenever health is restored, it is due to the human body, not by doctors.  It seems society as a whole always want to treat the symptoms and not the cause. Life heals, not doctors. All the scientists put together couldn’t heal a blade of grass, yet your body is making living human flesh and blood out of the breakfast you had this morning. We want to give you some faith through understanding. We want to give you confidence through knowledge of this great fantastic body of yours. It’s so very simple – The delivery of the adjustment moves the bone into proper alignment, taking pressure of the nerves, allowing the brain to communicate with the body and thus, allowing innate Intelligence to fully express.

To make chiropractic a part of your healthy lifestyle, it’s as easy as arranging a spine and nerve exam with x-rays first and foremost, to discover how well your spine is protecting your powerful nervous system. Because only when we can appreciate and facilitate full function of this beautiful life force, we can experience the vibrant life that we were intended to live!

  • Hi Dr Eric & Angela Slead,

I mentioned to my Physio recently that I felt I needed to see a Chiropractor because I have constant neck and shoulder pain and thought maybe my neck was out.

He said that there is no such thing as bones being “out” and I’d be better off having deep tissue massage.

I find that massages relieve the pain for maybe half a day to a day at the most but then the pain returns.

Can you please explain how a Chiropractor can actually help heal the problem rather than just a temporary fix.

    Many thanks,

    Jennifer
