How to Overcome Imposter Syndrome & Get On Video by Melissa Groom

It can hold you back, keep you playing small and even cripple some.

So many of us never release that book we have written or submit an article, launch a program, or run our own events, let alone do videos,  as we are trapped in the fear of “I’m not good enough, what will people think of me, who am I to do this?”

The truth is there will always be someone in your mind- better looking, slimmer, more stylish, have more credentials, letters after their name, more successful than you.

When we are starting something new it’s normal to feel apprehensive about how it will be received. It would be arrogant if we didn’t care what people think. There is a fine line between caring what people think but not caring about others people’s judgements, because in business it does matter what people think of you.

When I first started my web TV show back in 2010, I actually wasn’t thinking who am I to do this because I was coming from service.

It was when people started approaching me to ask me how to start their own show that imposter syndrome crept in. I started comparing myself to others that teach video marketing and I would sometimes think -”I should just give up and let others do it.” But then I would think of the people that I had helped get started and read their testimonials or listen to their video when I was doubting myself.

It’s been over 10 years now that I have been teaching entrepreneurs how to grow their profile and income using the power of video.

With regards to imposter syndrome, here are my tips on overcoming this debilitating condition so you can go out and make the difference in the world you were born to make:

TIP #1

Even if you are just starting out, you are one step ahead of someone who hasn’t been or done what you have.

Or

Your experience/lessons/perspective are totally unique and can help someone. “I never thought of that!”

TIP #2

Get out of your head and into your heart.Think about the people that you know you can help. Think about how much better their life, business, health, relationships, finance will improve from your tips, tools, strategies, products or services.

Be kind to yourself and instead of asking, “who am I to do this?” ask yourself,  “who am I not to?

TIP #3

Surround yourself with like-minded people who are all putting themselves out there and having a go.

TIP #4

Launch a beta program and get feedback and testimonials.  I have done this for all of my programs.

TIP #5

Get a coach or a mentor. Everyone successful in business has one. Back yourself and invest in yourself.

I want you to know that everyone starts somewhere, so just get started.
