Know Thyself by Tonia Reeves

Recently I met an amazing young man called Nick who had truly been an inspiration to me.

You see Nick is wheelchair bound but instead of this being a restriction, as we are often led to believe, this has enabled Nick to go on a journey that is incredibly insightful and deep.

I met Nick at the Brisbane M.B.S and was introduced by a talented friend Lou Van Stone. I could see past the wheelchair to a soul that was incredibly wise. He shared many insights, not only about life but what he saw around me that was scarily true.

This started a connection that we have kept up to this day. One of the most profound things Nick shared was the most important quest that many of us fail to embrace is Know Thyself.

This took me on a quest to really delve deep into the question how do we know ourselves? How well do I know myself? Nick also shared when you get these two words you will find peace, happiness and be able to maintain this. It’s not for the faint hearted, but hey I’m up for the challenge.

What I love most about this journey is just when you think you have nailed it, along comes another challenge! Ahhhh such is life. So, knowing thyself is about digging deep and really connecting to all of the parts that make up who you are. Your Soul. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Easier said than done, and I’m still on that path of discovery. One of the biggest challenges is to be honest with yourself, be true to yourself. To do this, we need to lose the mask of what we believe we need to be or be like. Choosing honesty is calling out the B.S stories we tell ourselves.

Identifying the egoic aspects that often make up our belief in our own persona. That belief that, what is external to us is the answer! What I have learnt so far is the soul knows. Deep down, we know our truth, deep down lurks a resonance that is waiting to be unwrapped. We all have the ability to connect to the part of that, that knows. But first we must be quiet, we need to allow space for this to blossom, and so it’s in the being not the doing.

We need to slow down to speed up. And by speeding up, I mean integrating our knowledge to create a path forward. I’m a student of life and that’s what brings in some amazing inspirers, and Nick is one of those!

About four weeks before we met I asked my spiritual team to bring forward an inspirer and boy did they do that!
