Being healthy and happy is a natural state for animals, where all the cells are performing at an optimum level. When illness, injury or events occur which shift that natural state to one of being unhealthy, or in pain and discomfort, depressed or anxious, then an animal needs help in re-establishing a sense of balance again so that health and happiness can be achieved. Animal Bowen Therapy helps to do this and is a specialised form of Bowen Therapy designed solely for animals (both large and small).
Animal Bowen Therapy is a remedial therapy that involves the rolling of soft tissue over the muscle fibres with the fingers, using a cross-fibre technique. These movements use a gentle, non-invasive pressure applied over specific areas of the animal, depending on where the pain and discomfort is being felt by the animal. This soothing therapy addresses all the soft tissue, muscle, ligament, tendon, fascia (connective tissue), skin and organs. The energy system of the body is restored and resets the autonomic nervous system bringing about a calm and relaxed state to your beloved pet or working animal.
Originally developed as a treatment for humans, Animal Bowen Therapy is also effective for dogs, cats, guinea pigs, horses and many other animals.
Bowen Therapist, Eleni Seitis, has had additional training in treating animals with Bowen Therapy, and has a long-list of animal clients – her most recent two were a dog with degenerative hip and lower back issues in need of relief and on-going maintenance, and a dog with anxiety after being attacked by another dog (the doggie mum benefitted from a treatment session also).
Animal Bowen therapy aims to promote and support the animal’s own powers of self-healing and can assist with problems in the following areas:
- Animals experiencing muscular discomfort or pain, including acute injury like sprains and strains
- Animals with poor joint mobilisation
- Animals with chronic conditions and degenerative disease to help improve quality of life
- Animals that need overall body balancing for when they are experiencing melancholy, depression or malaise
- Animals needing a little extra-assistance in recovering from injury or illness
- Animals having surgery can receive help both before and after surgery to assist with faster recovery times
- Animals suffering from anxiety, including separation anxiety, storms and fear of leaving the family home
- Animals that have emotional problems, especially stemming from traumatic events such as abuse, rehoming, or coming from a rescue centre or shelter
- Animals exhibiting anti-social tendencies, such as fighting with other animals or destroying household items
- Great for working animals to keep them in peak performance
Consultations will usually last for approximately 1 hour as Eleni gets to know your furry companion and find out the challenges they are having. The actual treatment lasts for around 20 minutes with breaks in between to gauge how the body is responding. Allow 2-3 days to see the best results (although you may see changes immediately) and up to 7 days for the greatest amount of healing. If a second treatment is required, this will be after 7 days from the first session.
Eleni is severely vision-impaired since birth yet has an extraordinary gift of touch and intuition to “know” what is ailing your beloved companion. She has her loyal and very smart Seeing Eye Dog, Laura by her side always.
