Most of us spend our days a few steps ahead of ourselves. We eat while answering messages and lie down at night with the day still running on a loop. The body is in one place, and the mind is somewhere else entirely. Over time the nervous system forgets what rest feels like.
Last time we opened the door to the six pillars that shape our Pranafest experience and spent some time with ‘The Body’. This month we turn to the second pillar, ‘Mindfulness’, and the quiet skill that sits underneath nearly everything else we offer: noticing where you are.
Mindfulness is the practice of bringing those two back into the same room. At Pranafest, that happens through meditation, breathwork, nature immersion and moments of stillness, and it often starts before anyone has unrolled a mat. Mist lifting off the hills at Woodfordia as the sun rises. Cold dew soaking through your socks on the walk to morning practice. These details are easy to miss, and catching them is the practice.
Two invitations to try at home
You don’t need a festival to begin. Before you open your laptop or start the car, pause for three slow breaths and feel the weight of your feet on the floor. It takes less than a minute, and it tells your body you have arrived before you ask it to perform.
Then choose one ordinary task each day to do with your full attention. Washing a cup or hanging the laundry. Notice the warmth of the water and the click of each peg. When the mind wanders, and it will, bring it back without judgement. That return is the whole exercise.
Presence is contagious
Something we’ve learned over six years is that mindfulness deepens when it’s shared. Sit in silence beside a hundred other people and your own breathing slows to meet theirs. Researchers call this co-regulation, the way one settled nervous system helps settle another. We just call it community.
Lilly came to Pranafest this year with friends. In her TripAdvisor review, the evening breathwork and sound journeys were one of the highlights of the weekend:
“… Pranafest completely exceeded our expectations. You can feel how much care and intention has gone into every detail. The whole event was incredibly well organised, with a smooth flow between workshops, performances and spaces to simply relax and connect.
One of our absolute highlights was the evening breathwork and sound journeys. We’d rug up, get cosy and warm, and simply listen. It was such a beautiful way to end the day and left us feeling deeply relaxed and grounded.”

Those evenings left her group deeply relaxed and grounded, and her advice to first-timers was simple: don’t overschedule yourself, and leave room for the moments you can’t plan. In the same review she remembers the crew turning up with jump leads when their car battery went flat, a small kindness that summed up the weekend for her.
That’s the reason Pranafest exists. We gather so that presence stops being something you practise alone and becomes something you feel held by.
A global moment of stillness
On Sunday 18 October, that shared stillness goes worldwide. ORIGIN, the global gathering co-founded by Dr Zach Bush, will see more than 2,000 gatherings across every time zone pause at the same instant for a single Moment of Global Unity.
Here on the Sunshine Coast, The Flow State Experience and Conscious Life Events are hosting at Mooloolaba Foreshore Park. It’s free, and registration is essential so we know how many of you to expect. Register & find more info here: https://events.humanitix.com/origin-sunshine-coast
Before you decide, take a breath and ask yourself where you feel most present, and who you feel it with. If the answer is a quiet beach at first light, surrounded by people who care about this planet as much as you do, we’d love to share that sunrise with you.
