Embracing the New: Finding Joy and Adventure in Your Life by Jacq Koloski

Reflecting on my year so far brings a smile to my face. I remember at the beginning of the year choosing to start it with travelling and knowing that I wanted more of this in my life. For me, by choosing that, it was my way of inviting in more of what I want. I’ve always focused on what others need, and this is new for me to think about what makes my heart sing and choose that. My kids often remind me: “Mum, it’s your time now. Choose what you want. You can do anything.”

My year began with travel, a sense of openness, and the thrill of stepping into unfamiliar places. The kind of travel that shakes up your routines, widens your perspective, and reminds you how alive it feels to experience something new. When I arrived home, the weeks passed, fast, fleeting and full of change. New jobs, new projects, new routines, new faces and new challenges. The constant thread running through it all – newness. There’s something profound about allowing new things into your world, not just externally, but internally too. New experiences invite us to grow, to stretch, to notice what lights us up, and to remember what truly matters.

The question I keep returning to is: how do I include myself in this ever-changing flow of life? How do I create space for joy, curiosity, and adventure instead of just moving through the same days on autopilot?

Planning isn’t just about logistics; it’s about intention. It’s about giving yourself something to look forward to, something that nourishes your spirit. Weekend adventures, spontaneous outings, a new class, a walk in an unfamiliar park, a trip with friends or even solo explorations. These are invitations to reconnect with your own delight. They remind you that you are not just a participant in life’s routines, you are the author of your own experiences.

Joy is not an indulgence; it’s essential. Including it intentionally changes your energy, your outlook, and your ability to show up fully for others and yourself. What adventures are you planning? What experiences can you prepare for, even in small ways, that bring a sparkle to your everyday? Where in your life can you make room for you to flourish?

I invite you to reflect on your life and use these questions to guide you as you look within and hear the whispers of your soul. What does it want to share with you?

  • What new experiences have entered your life this year, and how have they impacted you?
  • Where in your daily routine are you forgetting to include yourself?
  • What adventures, big or small, can you plan in the coming weeks that will excite or nourish you?
  • How can you intentionally create space for pleasure, connection, or learning in your life?

Life will always present newness, whether we are ready for it or not. Choosing to engage with it with curiosity, playfulness, and intentional joy transforms it into something that nourishes your soul. You deserve to feel this alive, now and always.
