Over twenty years ago, I developed an interest in something called automatic writing. At the time, I didn’t have a clear path for where it might lead. I was simply curious about intuition, spiritual connection and the possibility that guidance could come through in ways beyond our everyday thinking mind.
Over the years, this curiosity developed into a deeper exploration of automatic writing, channelled writing and trance mediumship, all of which became important parts of my spiritual development.
Automatic writing involves sitting quietly with pen and paper and allowing words to flow without consciously deciding what to write. In the early days it was very much a practice of patience and curiosity. I would light a candle, sit in stillness, relax my mind and allow whatever came through to be written down. Sometimes my soul only shared a few words, and other times it was a page or two of reflections.
Over time, this quiet practice began to deepen and naturally evolved from automatic writing into what I now call channelled writing, which eventually led me into the development of trance mediumship. For me, channelled writing became a deeper form of connection where the pages of information now being offered no longer felt like it was coming from my own soul or higher self, but rather from source, external spiritual energies, spirit guides and sometimes passed over loved ones — offering love, wisdom and guidance that often felt far beyond my own scope of knowledge.
Throughout the years I have often been woken during the night, feeling called to sit and conduct channelled writing, with the most beautiful and profound messages coming through. When this connection occurs, I find myself writing reams from spirit, the information flowing quickly onto the pages. I then return to bed and read the messages the following day, often feeling amazed by the depth and wisdom of what has been shared.
As this practice continued to develop, I found myself drawn to trance mediumship. This is a form of mediumship where the medium enters a deep altered state, blending with spirit and allowing messages and guidance to come through more directly.
Along the way I attended workshops and witnessed demonstrations from world-renowned mediums, including Tony Stockwell. I was also blessed to meet and receive ongoing mentorship from my dear friend Brenda Arber, author of Hear My Words, who has supported me over the years in my development of trance and the art of spirit drawing.
Like many spiritual practices, learning to work in this way takes time, trust and consistency. One of the most important lessons I have learned has been the importance of sitting in the power, trusting the process and letting go of expectation. When we try too hard to control what might come through, the thinking mind tends to interrupt the flow. When we soften, relax and simply allow, the connection often becomes clearer.
My main spirit guide identifies himself through the words “I am here.” These are usually the first words I hear internally, see written, or is spoken when the connection begins. Over time I came to recognise this presence as a loving guiding source who supports the flow of wisdom and insight during these moments of profound connection.
For me, working with spirit has been a deeply meaningful and insightful experience. To feel the love of spirit envelop you and to be held in that presence is truly beyond words. I feel incredibly grateful to be able to work with spirit in this way. I have never felt the need to prove anything; I have learned to simply let go and allow. The messages that come through are often thoughtful and reflective, always loving, offering guidance around personal growth, self-awareness and the bigger perspective of our spiritual journey.
Another practice that has been incredibly valuable over the years is keeping records of the experience. I have folders filled with writings, recordings of trance sessions and a collection of my developing spirit drawings. Documenting these moments allows me to look back and observe how the connection has evolved over time. It also provides a way to reflect on the guidance that has been shared and the patterns that sometimes emerge.
Trance mediumship, channelled writing and spirit art have become a meaningful part of my own spiritual path. They have taught me the value of stillness, trust and humility when working with spiritual guidance.
More than anything, my journey with trance mediumship and channelled writing has shown me that when we quiet the mind and remain open, there is often a deeper wisdom available to us. A wisdom that encourages us to trust ourselves, to grow and to move through life with greater awareness.
It continues to be a practice that I approach with respect, curiosity and gratitude.
If you’re curious about intuition, spiritual development or deepening your own connection with spirit, these are practices I love sharing and exploring within my work.
With love and gratitude,
Vikki Speller
