Jacq’s Musings – When life quietly answers your intentions by Jacq Koloski

This is the third time I have sat down to write this article. The first two times, my laptop decided to shut down before I had saved my words. Honestly, I had one of those moments where I just stared at the screen and thought, really? Technology was certainly not my friend today and I could feel the frustration rising in my body. The annoyance was building, my patience was disappearing and for a moment I could feel myself wanting to let it control the whole experience. Then I paused, took a breath, released it and chose to be in allowance instead. What was the message I was meant to hear? What else was wanting to come through? Many questions and, at first, no answers.

In the quiet space right after the irritation subsided, I realised perhaps the interruption was part of the article. Perhaps stopping, starting again, losing what I had written and choosing not to let it control me was exactly the doorway into what I wanted to share. Being honest, the first two versions had not really flowed. The words were rushing out, but something in them felt scattered, as though I was trying to force the message before I had fully received it. I had started writing about the intentions I set at the beginning of the year and how they had unfolded as the year progressed, yet it was only in the pause that I began to feel what this article was really asking me to notice.

My intention was that I wanted more travel, more adventures and more experiences this year. I wanted to say yes more often. I wanted to create memories, explore new places, step outside the usual routine and allow myself to be surprised by what was possible. Underneath all of that, I was really choosing more of me. I was finally allowing myself to listen to what my heart desired, to honour what felt expansive and to choose a life that felt less restricted and more alive.

Looking back now, I can see that the intention was not just about travel. It was about the feeling underneath it, the freedom, the expansion and the joy. A sense of choosing myself and letting life become bigger than the routine I had known.

This past week while away, I stopped and reflected on the year so far and I was genuinely amazed. Without even realising it fully as I was living it, I had already experienced so many travels, adventures and memorable moments. There was Perth, South Australia, Wollongong, Bunya Mountains, a weekend festival in Stanthorpe, day trips to Noosa, time at a friend’s farm, a spa day, Toowoomba and the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and many walking adventures. What I have taken from these adventures is the mountain air, the laughter shared with family and friends, the stillness of walking tracks, the feeling of my heart opening somewhere between the ordinary and the unexpected. When I allowed myself to count them, feel into them and honour them, I could see that my intention had been quietly weaving itself through my year in far more ways than I had first realised.

It reminded me that intentions do not always arrive with announcements or perfectly planned itineraries. Sometimes they arrive as a spontaneous yes, a change of plans, a new connection, a road trip, a weekend away, a day trip, a nourishing pause, a meaningful conversation or a moment where we choose to follow the nudge instead of staying where it feels familiar.

Often we set intentions at the beginning of the year and then forget to look back with loving eyes. We may focus on what has not happened yet, what is still missing, or what we think we should have achieved by now. Yet reflection can be such a beautiful, sacred practice. It helps us recognise growth and reminds us that life may already be responding to us in quiet, tender ways that we did not expect.

For me, these travels and adventures have not simply been about going somewhere. They have been about receiving more of life. They have been about presence, connection, laughter, expansion and creating space for joy. They have reminded me that when we follow the energy of an intention, we are not just chasing an outcome. We are becoming more available to the feeling we asked for.

When we set an intention, it carries an energy with it. A feeling deep within us when our heart and soul know that this is what is needed. Sometimes we do not even realise that we are choosing from that space, yet something within us starts to shift. We notice different opportunities, feel drawn to new places, say yes where we may have once said no and allow life to meet us in ways we could not have planned.

Pause a moment and breathe. Ask yourself:

·       What intentions did you set at the beginning of the year?

·       How did those intentions feel in your body, your heart and your energy when you first chose them?

·       Have your intentions already shown up in quiet, unexpected ways that you have not fully noticed until now?

What did you become aware of when asking yourself these questions? Have your intentions shown up? Maybe they have arrived in ways you had not recognised before. Perhaps you have said yes more often, felt more joy, created deeper connections, chosen more adventures, welcomed more experiences and become willing to receive more than you once thought possible.

As for this article, maybe the first two versions were never meant to be the final ones. Maybe I needed to lose the words so I could find the message. I can smile at that now, even if I did not appreciate it in the moment. This time, I am saving it, sending it and feeling grateful for the reminder that even the interruptions, the detours and the little frustrations can become part of the journey when we are willing to listen with our heart.

Big love and hugs
