What does it mean to live spiritually in today’s changing world?
Many people describe themselves as ‘spiritual’ rather than “religious”. Having outgrown the narrow approach of traditional religion, they seek a more personal spiritual connection, one that gives meaning and purpose to life.
My spiritual quest began this way. An experience in my teens left me with a deep sense of purpose. I knew there was more, and longed for the tools and guidance to connect with that purpose.
My journey led me to the teachings of Eckankar… a spiritual path centred in personal experience and connection with Divine Spirit. Not only am I discovering more about who I am and why I am here, my personal spiritual experiences have taken me beyond faith and belief to a deep, personal connection with my higher self, Soul, and with Divine Spirit. My path is unique, one that fits the individuality of Soul. It has brought me the confidence to fine tune how I approach each day, aligning with my true purpose as a spiritual being.
What are the anchor points that help me realign when life gets noisy and rough?
- Awareness! That ability to tune into my spiritual senses …to notice the nudges and cues when I need to pay attention.
- Remembering I am Soul! So much more than my human self.
- Regular spiritual practice! This reminds me of who I am and why I am here. Spiritual exercises strengthen my connection with Spirit and boost my spiritual perception, then I can notice when I’m off track.
I was driving with my daughter to Southport, a familiar route. We were discussing the finer points of politics when I realized I had driven past our Exit. We both laughed – one reason to not talk politics!
Then on our way home, we fell back into the same conversation and this time I missed the Exit to home! An unmistakable message … keep my attention on where I am going! I can easily lose my way when caught up in the social issues of the day.
I am Soul and so are you. We are on this spiritual journey called life, learning to be who we truly are, and to let our individual light and love flow out into this world.
So my daily spiritual exercises are a key to living spiritually. They help keep my attention focussed inwardly rather than on the noise and confusion of life. Shifting focus in this way, my attitude changes immediately and I remember what life is really about!
To live spiritually, I need to be connected to my spiritual nature, living from It.
Then I am confident and happy. Life’s challenges become opportunities to learn and grow, petty annoyances are simply shadows to rise above.
To live spiritually is to live as Soul- creative, divine, unlimited, joyous, loved and guided.
All that we need awaits within us…not out here!
