Motherhood, Mindfulness & the Sacred Pause by Vikki Speller

Being a mother isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about love, patience, strength and resilience, even on the days when you feel like you’re running on empty. It’s a gentle reminder that you deserve to honour yourself, just as much as you care for those around you.

Motherhood looks different for every woman. For some, it’s cuddles and hand-drawn cards, little milestones and moments of deep connection. For others, it can be layered with grief, longing, exhaustion, pride, guilt, or quiet reflection. There’s no one way to experience it and however you feel is completely valid.

Whether you’re a new mum finding your rhythm, a grandmother holding space for the next generation, or a woman carrying dreams and heartaches quietly within, your journey matters.

As a mindfulness practitioner and women’s coach, I often speak with mothers who feel the pressure to do everything and hold everyone together. I often remind them: you are not just here for everyone else. You matter too.

You’re allowed to feel tired. You’re allowed to feel joy. You’re allowed to feel unsure. You’re allowed to feel everything that comes with this season of life. You are allowed to need support, too. Motherhood is layered, it’s beautiful, messy, joyful, sacred, and sometimes, deeply lonely.

Motherhood isn’t just a role. It’s a relationship. It’s a connection that begins long before birth and continues to evolve with time. For me, that role has shifted from mother to grandmother, and no matter where you are on your journey, whether your children are in your arms, in your heart, or out there thriving in the world, the heart of motherhood lives on in you. It’s found in your deep love, your intuition, and your strength to keep showing up, even when it’s hard.

Mindfulness has taught me that the greatest gift we can offer to our children and to ourselves, is presence. Not perfection. Just presence. To slow down. To breathe. To listen. And to be open to receiving love, not just giving it.

I invite you to gift yourself a small moment of connection.

A Moment for You:

Find a quiet space. Sit with your feet flat on the ground, one hand over your heart. Take three slow, deep breaths. Then gently whisper to yourself:

“I am doing enough. I am not alone. I am allowed to rest.”

Let these words land softly within you, like a warm embrace.

When you are ready, ask yourself:

“What do I need most right now?”

Let whatever comes up be welcome. You may wish to write it down or simply acknowledge it. This is your sacred pause, your reminder that your needs matter too.

If your heart is craving a space to breath and feel held, the Mums and Bubs Self-Love Club is here for you. Over six nourishing weeks, we gather in circle, a place where you don’t have to explain or hold it all together. You can simply come as you are.

Through easy mindfulness practices, playful activities for you and your little one, and meaningful connection with other women, this is a space where both you and your child can grow, recharge and thrive.
