Love Letter to the Unseen by Marc and Milly

Movie Night & Tree Planting Event Featuring Inspiring 15-year-old Environmental Advocate Spencer

On Saturday afternoon, August 29th, Serpentine Ridge Conscious Living Healing Retreat will host a special community gathering that blends storytelling, environmental action, and the wisdom of young leadership.  The event centres around a feature film, LOVE LETTERS TO THE UNSEEN, and its remarkable presenter, 15-year-old Spencer Hitchen, whose voice is rapidly becoming one of the most compelling in Australia’s emerging generation of Earth stewards.

The afternoon opens with ‘Saving Mary’, a short film that serves as a thematic warm-up and an emotional primer.  Gentle, symbolic, and deeply human, ‘Saving Mary’ invites viewers to consider what is fragile, overlooked, and quietly asking for protection.  Its message resonates beautifully with the ethos of Serpentine Ridge: that healing the land and healing ourselves are inseparable acts.

Following the short film, guests will settle for Love Letters to the Unseen, a cinematic exploration of our relationship with the living world -particularly the parts we rarely notice.

Through poetic imagery and grounded ecology, the film encourages viewers to slow down, to listen, and to reconnect with the subtle intelligence woven through country, culture, community, and common sense.

At the heart of the screening is Spencer, the film’s young star and guest presenter for the event.  At just fifteen, Spencer brings a clarity and sincerity that disarms audiences. His advocacy is not built on grandstanding or alarmism; instead, he speaks from a place of genuine care, curiosity, and responsibility.  Spencer represents a generation that refuses to inherit environmental decline. His presence at Serpentine Ridge is more than symbolic.  It is a reminder that leadership can come from any age, and that environmental healing is most powerful when shared across generations.  Spencer will speak about his journey, the making of the film, and the importance of protecting what he calls “the unseen” -the ecosystems, species, and cultural stories that quietly sustain life.

The event will flow from film into action with a guided tree-planting session on the Retreat grounds. Guests will be invited to place native seedlings into the earth, contributing directly to the ongoing regeneration of Serpentine Ridge’s living landscape. This hands-on activity embodies the retreat’s philosophy: that inspiration must be paired with participation, and that every story of healing deserves a practical chapter.

As the sun lowers over the ridge, the community will gather for conversation, reflection, good food and connection.  The combination of film, youth, leadership, and ecological action promises an afternoon that is both grounding and uplifting; an opportunity to witness the power of story and the promise of the next generation.

Serpentine Ridge Conscious Living Healing Retreat welcomes all who feel called to be part of this meaningful event. Together we plant, we listen, and we honour the unseen.
