This month I have had many clients, and myself included, who have needed to rest more. Their bodies have been tired, mind tired, emotionally tired, and soul tired.
Have you noticed yourself feeling tired, drained and needing to step away from the busyness of day to day doing and thinking.
What does rest mean to you?
Rest is often difficult to define as it can look different for everyone.
In yoga nidra there is the element of returning to the rest cave. I refer to this as the Rest Nest. Yoga Nidra is a beautiful way to rest. It is easy, nurturing and fills the body, mind, emotions and soul with much needed rest and calm.
There is the little quote that says “the best time to rest is when you are too busy”.
There are different types of Rest –
- Physical Rest – this could include passive rest (sleeps and naps) or active rest (yoga and stretching) to connect and rejuvenate the body.
- Mental Rest – taking breaks from having to focus to do something fun and soothing to calm the mind.
- Creative Rest –enjoy art, coloring, nature and any inspiring activity to rejuvenate your mind.
- Emotional Rest – expressing feelings openly, set boundaries and just be yourself to reduce stress
- Sensory Rest – reduce sensory overload from noise, lights, screens and spend some time in quiet candle light environment.
- Social Rest – spend valuable time with supportive, uplifting and inspiring people and create distance from draining relationships and environments.
- Spiritual Rest – connect with something greater through meditation, nature, reading to find peace and purpose and fill your cup.
The end of 2025 is now quickly approaching and there is a sense of more busyness for people. School is coming to a close, projects need to be completed, preparation for the Christmas season, prepare for annual holidays and for some there is the sense of urgency to finish goals for the year.
In all of this I gently invite you to create your own REST NEST and fill it with things that light you up eg cushions, covers, candles, crystals, the smell of essential oils, flowers, plants or anything else that fills your heart.
Take time for yourself, breathe, let go and be in the space of nourishment, nurturing and deep deep rest and emerge with the sense of being rested and having paused.
All of the happiest deep rest from my Rest Nest to yours,
Love Leeann
