Why testimonials begin with honest feedback
This month’s topic is about something many business owners either avoid or rush…
Testimonials!
You’ll often hear:
“Make sure you get testimonials.”
“Social proof builds trust.”
And yes, that’s true.
But what’s often missed is this:
A testimonial is not something you collect.
It’s something that comes from an experience.
Every client journey has an ending
And that ending matters.
Inside my book, I talk about the importance of the full customer journey, not just how someone finds you, but what happens when they work with you… and how they feel when it’s complete.
Because that final experience?
- That’s what people remember
- That’s what they talk about
- That’s what they share
That’s where your testimonials come from.
Before the testimonial… there’s feedback
This is the part that gets skipped.
Before you ask someone to say something nice about you, you need to understand:
How was their experience, really?
Not just:
“Did you enjoy it?”
But:
- What worked for you?
- What could have been better?
- Where did you feel supported?
- Where did you feel unsure?
This is where growth happens.
Not every client will give you a testimonial
And that’s important to understand.
If someone has had an average experience, or something didn’t quite land for them, they’re unlikely to respond.
Or they’ll quietly move on.
That’s not failure.
That’s feedback you haven’t received yet.
And it’s far more valuable than a surface-level testimonial.
Because it shows you where your business can be strengthened.
A testimonial is a reflection of alignment
When someone has had a really good experience working with you, they want to share it.
- They feel seen
- They feel supported
- They’ve had a shift
And when you ask at the right time, it feels natural.
Not forced.
Not awkward.
Just a genuine reflection of what’s already happened.
This is how trust is built
When a potential client sees a testimonial, they’re not just reading words.
They’re asking:
“Is this going to work for me, too?”
They’re looking for themselves in that experience.
That’s why honest, grounded testimonials matter so much.
Not polished. Not perfect.
Real.
Inside my Sacred Profitable Marketing Mentoring, this is part of what we refine.
Not just how you attract clients…
But how do you deliver an experience that people naturally want to talk about?
Because a strong business doesn’t just bring people in.
It supports them all the way through, and leaves them with a clear, positive happy ending.
If you haven’t looked at this part of your business yet, this is a powerful place to start.
Not by asking for more testimonials.
But by asking better questions.
If you’d like support reviewing your client journey and strengthening this part of your business, start with a short 10-minute Connection Call over the phone.
