The Quiet Depletion Nobody Is Talking About by Leisa Blanch

You’re keeping up. You’re showing up. From the outside, everything looks fine.

But somewhere underneath it all, you know it. There is a gap between the life you’re living and the one you feel capable of. The energy is not quite there. The clarity comes and goes. You push through, because that is what capable people do. And your GP says your blood tests came back normal.

This is one of the most common things I see in clinical practice. People who are functioning at a high level but running on reserves they do not know are depleting. The body compensates quietly, for a long time, before it stops compensating at all.

The nervous system is usually the first thing to go. Not dramatically. Slowly. Sleep that is lighter than it used to be. A shorter fuse. A low-grade anxiety that did not used to be there. Hormonal symptoms. A sense that you are not quite yourself, but you cannot point to why.

What I have found, working with thousands of driven yet depleted people over the years, is that the body keeps score long before the mind catches up. Energy is not purely physical. And you cannot think your way out of a system that is dysregulated at its roots.

My mission is to advance human potential. I want people to have access to real, sustainable energy, and the clarity, purpose, and presence that comes with it.

So, whatever brings someone to me, whether it’s burnout, hormonal shifts, poor sleep, anxiety, or simply the feeling they are not quite themselves anymore, the nervous system is often where we begin.

Because nothing else holds when that foundation is shaky.

Aside from their personalised herbal and nutritional prescription, and more detailed testing, including DNA testing to understand how their neurotransmitters, methylation pathways, liver function, and mitochondria work, below are five simple, practical tips I usually recommend clients begin with.

  1. Slow your exhale

A longer out-breath activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Breathe in for four counts, out for six. Two minutes is enough to feel it shift.

  1. Get outside before 9am

Morning light anchors your circadian rhythm and your cortisol curve. It is one of the most underrated and accessible tools available.

  1. Eat within an hour of waking

Blood sugar instability drives more anxiety and HPA axis dysregulation than most people realise. A protein-rich breakfast changes the trajectory of your whole day. If you drink caffeine, have it after breakfast, not before. If anxiety is a pattern for you, it may be worth dropping it altogether for a while.

  1. Put your feet on the ground

Direct contact with the earth has measurable effects on the biofield and inflammatory markers. Ten minutes. That is all it takes.

  1. Create a hard stop in your evening

Your nervous system needs a clear signal that the day is done. Screens off, lights dimmed, something quiet. You are not designed to run at full capacity until the moment you sleep.

That is where the real shift starts.
