In the beautiful naturopathy shop where I work, we were all anticipating the arrival of our latest crystal delivery, the undisputed highlight of the month. Like an Instagram influencer, I stood there, unboxing each bubble-wrapped beauty with a mixture of sighs of admiration, cries of delight, and thoughts of all the potential crystals I could personally keep. (But, as the manager declared, “There will be none for the shop!”)
Among the many treasures, one piece instantly captured my attention: a stunning, large blue obsidian, rough-cut stone that seemed to call out to me. It was an intuitive connection, a quiet, persistent feeling that lingered in my mind, a subtle vibration that pulsed through my hand when I held it. This stone resonated with me on both a physical and energetic level.
This experience made me reflect on what it means when a crystal intuitively calls you. What is it trying to tell you? I believe it is an invitation from the universe, a gentle nudge guiding you toward deeper self-exploration and healing. I, as with many of those who work with crystals, believe that these stones possess an inherent energy that echoes the silent messages of our inner being. When you feel inexplicably drawn to a particular crystal, it can be seen as a moment of synchronicity, when your inner world aligns perfectly with the energy of the stone.
A particular crystal’s call may serve as a mirror to your soul, reflecting your current state and gently urging you to confront particular unresolved emotions or recurring patterns. In this way, the crystal becomes a tool for introspection and a guide that helps you navigate through layers of subconscious thought. It reminds you that the universe is constantly communicating with you, often through symbols and signs.
So, what did the blue obsidian mean for me? Blue obsidian is a variant of volcanic glass with a clear blue, sea-swirling, tranquil appearance. While it shares many of the protective and grounding properties of its more common black counterpart, blue obsidian is especially associated with communication, clarity, and emotional insight. It aids in releasing negativity and stress, promotes clear thinking, and acts as a protective shield. Additionally, it is linked to the throat and third eye chakras, supporting both emotional healing and the release of repressed emotions.
Every time I think of that blue obsidian stone, I am filled with a sense of clear thinking and calmness. Indeed, it helped me find the clarity to write this article! I know it is a subtle, universal prompt to help me express my thoughts and speak honestly – especially about some current gnarly relationship issues – and to step into my new season of crystal workshops at The Hierophant in Canberra. I love it when crystals speak to me; the clarity of their personal guidance gives me greater confidence to guide not only my work with clients but also my own personal journey.
