Winter Skin and Makeup tips by Kylie Eustace

Cooler temperatures and drier air can make our skin feel dry and dull, here are some helpful tips to help you brighten up and create plump, vibrant skin even in the winter:

Skin Preparation: Your Best Friend

First things first! A good skincare routine is key. Think of cream or balm cleansers, hydration sprays, serums, oils, and balms as your best friends. Hydration and moisturization are super important. Choose products that won’t irritate or inflame your skin. Apply your serums, oils, and moisturising products to cleansed, damp skin and massage them in gently. Be sure they are well absorbed before you move on to your makeup. Your skin will thank you!

Makeup Tips for Winter Radiance

Glowing Skin

When it comes to adjusting your makeup for winter, a moist, dewy finish will keep your skin looking radiant. For everyday wear, avoid over-powdering and definitely don’t skip the blush! Vibrant and deeper lipsticks can also make a big difference in adding a pop of colour and brightness.

Winter Foundation

Make sure you have the correct winter foundation shade since your skin might have lightened since summer. Dry or flaky skin is a no-go, especially in harsh winter conditions, so think extra hydration where you can. Liquid foundations, creams, or loose minerals mixed with a bit of oil are fantastic choices.

Nourishing Ingredients

Since winter air lacks humidity, go for makeup formulas that have nourishing ingredients. Products that combine skincare and makeup benefits are your winter BFFs. Look for aloe, glycerin-based hydration sprays, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, shea butter, and calendula. Did I mention oils enough? I love oils! They nourish your skin and create a beautiful, hydrated surface for your foundation to seamlessly blend over. Plus, they add a natural glow that shines through your foundation base.

Blush

Winter calls for cream blush that melts into your skin, creating a natural flushed look. Blush adds so much life and vibrancy to your complexion. Dab and blend it onto the tops of your cheekbones blend out and up towards the hairline, You can also add a bit of bronzer for warmth on or just under your cheekbones and along your hairline.

Highlighting

Add some light to your face by highlighting the high points. Pat a bit of highlighter on your cheekbones and blend out toward your temples. This creates a lovely luminosity to your complexion.

Lips

Keep lips hydrated with a nourishing balm or facial oil. Opt for deeper or vibrant lipstick shades like burgundy, plums, and reds. You can apply as a stain with a layer of gloss or balm or as a full cover lipstick. Line your lips first for a defined look.

Eyes

In winter, you can get away with bolder eye makeup. Try sweeping a deeper, richer eyeshadow shade across your lids. You can even use your lip colour on your eyes for a cohesive look. If bold eyes aren’t your thing, you can still use vibrant colours to line your lash lines and smudge them for a softer effect. Or keep it simple by applying your highlighter or bronzer to your eyes and finishing with a sweep of mascara.

Application Tips for a Flawless Finish

Setting Powder

A strategic, light dusting of powder on the T-zone is all you need. No need to go overboard.

Set and Refresh

Always keep a facial mist on hand. It sets your makeup and rescues dry skin, helping to revive your look throughout the day. Look for mists that contain humectants like glycerin or hyaluronic acid. Just spray, pat away the excess, and blend with a fluffy brush to keep your makeup from settling into fine lines.

By following these friendly tips, you’ll keep your skin looking plump and vibrant all winter long. Stay cozy and glow on!
