Every New Moon I set intentions of what I want to be, do and have over the following weeks or longer in my life.
I find that the New Moon is a more important event for me than the Full Moon although both have their place of course in the cycle of our life, the planet and the universe.
The New Moon is about new intentions, new plans, new feelings, new ways you will live, be.
The Full Moon is about letting go, release, embracing the new.
So when you begin with new intentions at the New Moon, it is usually clear what the old beliefs will be that you will release 2 weeks later in the Full Moon which in turn allows for the letting go with more ease and excitement as you hold the new intentions in your heart. Get the picture?
It is a great way to also let the Universe know you are serious about change and ready to embrace the new. It almost feels like when you intend it, it is done!
There have been many New Moon intention exercises and rituals I have tried over the past 10 years but these are 3 of my favourite.
3 Ways To Set New Moon Intentions
- The first is the ‘I Intend….’ exercise.
In your journal or a piece of paper (I find if I do them in my journal I can refer back to them when releasing the old during the Full Moon) and at the top write New Moon Intentions (date)
Write out at least 5 but up to 10 statements of intention.
For example:
- I intend to treat myself with more love and nurture
- I intend to have more control over my finances and savings
- I intend to release the old belief that I am not good enough.
- I intend to visit my family more often
Really feel into whatever it is you are intending, as if it has already happened.
- The second is the ‘I wish…x3’ exercise
In your journal, or a piece of paper, or you could even record this on your phone to play back, give yourself 3 wishes.
Start with ‘I wish’ and then add 3 things you really are wishing for.
There needs to be a letting go of disbelief here and also outcome. What we wish for will come to being but we have to believe it and not block it, and we have to allow the Universe to line up everything to have it happen, and that means there is no time or manner constraints here.
- Third is my favourite, the ‘I am so happy and grateful …’ exercise.
I learnt this one from Jack Canfield many years ago and it still brings me joy to do!
In your journal, you will write at least 10 statements. They will all begin with ‘I am so happy and grateful that…’
The statements will consist of 5 things you are grateful for that happened today. And 5 statements will be of things in the future BUT in the present moment.
For example:
- I am so happy and grateful that my daughter laughed with joy so many times today. (HAPPENED TODAY)
- I am so happy and grateful that I am now in my new home (FUTURE EVENT)
I used to write an A4 page of this nightly and it’s not long before you begin to see things shift in your reality!
So which exercise will you choose this New Moon? Maybe you will try them all! Why not!
But find a favourite and do it regularly for the best results. You have the power within to create the reality you desire.
