The beginning of a new year often arrives with mixed emotions. There is hope, possibility, and excitement, alongside the quiet urge to reset, plan ahead, and achieve.
2026, the Chinese Year of the Horse (begins 17th February), invites us to move forward authentically with momentum.
The horse is not a symbol of stillness but rather of movement, vitality, courage and freedom. This is a year that asks us to know ourselves deeply enough to move honestly and to pursue our dreams not from obligation or expectation but from our inner-truth.
Over the years, I’ve noticed that with many of my clients, the challenge is rarely motivation. More often, it’s clarity. We sense there is more available to us, yet we hesitate because we haven’t fully listened to ourselves.
This year offers a powerful opportunity to honour what has fallen away throughout 2025 and to move forward with self-led momentum, not by pushing harder but by aligning more deeply to who we are now.
Rather than beginning 2026 with rigid resolutions, consider starting with what I call self-listening practice. This is the practice of getting to know yourself at a deeper level so your next steps feel natural, not forced. One of the most effective ways to do this is through intentional journaling, especially in the quieter moments of the day.
A simple morning ritual can become a powerful anchor for the year ahead. Before the world rushes in, take five minutes to sit with a journal and gently ask:
- What energy do I want to move with today?
- Where am I ready to be more honest with myself?
- What feels ready to shift or expand in my life?
These questions invite an ongoing relationship with yourself. Over time, your answers reveal patterns, desires, and truths that the busy mind often talks over.
The Horse teaches us that momentum builds through motion, but motion must be aligned.
Journaling helps you notice where energy already wants to flow, and where you may be holding back out of habit, fear, or self-doubt.
Another supportive practice for 2026 is energy budgeting. Instead of asking, “What should I be doing?”, try asking, “What consistently fuels me, and what quietly drains me?”
Awareness alone can begin to shift how you move through your days.
This year also invites us to rethink balance. For true momentum to flow, it’s important to move in rhythm with your body and intuition. Simple practices like breath, reflection, and intention can gently support your nervous system and create steadiness that lasts far beyond the morning.
The Year of the Horse offers us the opportunity to be our truest selves and to move forward with confidence and self-trust. When you begin each day intentionally connecting with yourself, clarity stops being something you search for and starts becoming something you live with.
If this year feels like it is calling you to move, to realign, or to release what has quietly been weighing you down, honour that call. And if you’d like support in clearing old patterns and aligning with your soul’s natural rhythm for the year ahead, my Reiki Energy Soul Alignment sessions are available as a nurturing, one-on-one experience.
And if you’re looking for a gentle, creative way to support your journaling and self-connection, my Mandalas of Reflection offers a mindful space to slow down, reflect, and listen inward, allowing clarity to unfold naturally, one page at a time.
