EFT for Taking Charge – Creating Change Anytime, Starting Now By Kaz Waters

January has a particular energy.

It arrives carrying expectations. Quiet pressure. An unspoken agreement that this is the moment that we should finally get ourselves together.

New planners appear on kitchen benches. Words like discipline, goals, and fresh start float through conversations. And somewhere underneath it all, many people feel a familiar tightening. The sense that change is supposed to happen quickly, cleanly, and without mess.

But transformation doesn’t work like that.

For many, this pressure lands as fatigue in the mind and body, resistance, or a subtle urge to withdraw. Not because something is wrong, but because the system is already stretched. The nervous system responds best to safety, not demand.

Real change doesn’t respond well to force or timelines. It unfolds through honesty and moments of genuine readiness, which often arrive far away from calendar dates.

That’s why I’m not devoted to New Year’s resolutions. They tend to live in the mind, or the

glass of bubbles, while changing lives in the nervous system.

This is where Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT, offers a different entry point. One that honours where you are now, rather than who you think you should be by January 1st.

Change Doesn’t Need a Calendar

One of the most liberating truths EFT offers is this:

You don’t need the “right time” to begin.

Change doesn’t require a clean slate, a new month, or a better version of yourself. It can begin in the middle of a messy week. After a conversation that stirred something. In the quiet recognition that you’ve been pushing, avoiding, or holding yourself together for a little too long.

When people feel stuck, procrastinate, or are unsure of their next step, it’s rarely because they lack motivation. More often, their nervous system has been quietly managing stress beneath the surface. Holding emotional charge. Staying alert. Staying functional.

EFT works by gently signalling safety to the body while acknowledging what’s present. As the system settles, perspective returns and choices feel less loaded.

From that regulated place, clarity emerges. Momentum follows naturally.

EFT for Momentum, Self-Trust, and Forward Movement

In my work, I see this again and again.

People don’t need more pressure. They need space to feel. To pause. To listen to what their body has been communicating all along.

EFT supports this by helping to release emotional patterns that quietly influence behaviour, such as:

  • Procrastination rooted in fear or overwhelm
  • Self-doubt that leads to second-guessing decisions
  • Emotional responses that no longer match current circumstances
  • The sense of being “stuck” even when life looks fine on the surface

As these layers soften, people often notice a return of energy. Decisions feel cleaner. Action feels less effortful. Trust begins to rebuild, not just in the process, but in themselves.

This is the kind of momentum that sustains itself, because it’s built from internal steadiness rather than external pressure.

A Gentle EFT Practice You Can Try

If something in you is stirring as you read this, you might like to try a short, grounding EFT practice.

Place one hand on your heart. Let your shoulders soften. Take a slow breath.

As you tap gently on the side of your hand, say aloud or silently:

“Even though part of me has been holding back, I’m open to creating change in a way that feels safe and aligned for me.”

Move through your tapping points, offering reminders such as:

  • “I honour where I am right now”
  • “I release what I no longer need to carry”
  • “I allow momentum to build naturally”
  • “I trust my body to guide my next step”

There’s no need to push for a feeling. EFT works even when the shift is subtle. A deeper breath. A softening in the chest. A sense of steadiness is returning.

That’s enough.

An Invitation Into the Year Ahead

January doesn’t ask you to reinvent yourself.

It invites you to return to yourself.

As we complete the shedding energy of the Snake and prepare to meet the forward fire of the Horse, this is a powerful time to clear emotional weight and allow movement to arise from within.

Change doesn’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful. It can be quiet. Body-led. Honest. A series of small, compassionate choices that add up to something steady and true.

If you feel drawn to explore EFT, nervous system support, or gentle pathways for change, you’re warmly invited to explore the ways we can work together.
