Antfirmations: The enlightenment practice happening on your footpath by Nate Mico

I stopped mid-step the other day because a line of ants was crossing the footpath.

Not a neat line. A messy one. Ants everywhere. Some going the “right” way, some clearly lost, some carrying things bigger than themselves, others narrowly escaping my shoe. They had just survived a rogue gust of wind, fallen leaves, and what can only be described as a small inland sea created by an over-enthusiastic sprinkler.

I wondered if they noticed me towering over them like Godzilla, a giant presence capable of ending everything with one single careless step. If they did, it changed nothing. They kept doing exactly what they were doing.

One wrong moment means an ant’s near-death experience.

Yet, they kept going.

That’s when it hit me: ants experience more near-death moments in a day than most humans face in a lifetime. Feet. Water. Predators. Gravity. Structural collapse. Sudden reroutes. Entire worlds are ending without warning.

They don’t stop to process it. They don’t personalise it. They don’t spiral. They continue.

Watching them, I realised ants quietly live what we talk about in spiritual circles: presence in the face of constant change.

Every crushed pathway is a tiny ego death. Every interruption is an invitation to reorganise. The intelligence moving through them doesn’t hesitate.

That’s when the phrase antfirmations arrived: truths ants embody without language. Like these:

No excuses. I move anyway

Ants keep going when something is in the way. They don’t stop to assess the obstacle or imagine what might happen next. They move. When the path disappears, they find another. When things get disrupted, they reorganise.

I only carry what is mine

An ant never questions if its load is too small. It never carries what belongs to another. Sitting with this, I felt how much of our exhaustion comes from carrying things that were never ours to begin with. We carry the weight of the world, forgetting our backs were not built for it. Ants carry what is theirs, share the load when needed, and move on.

I rebuild without attachment to what was

No grief ritual. No resistance. No nostalgia for the old tunnel. Just recalibration and movement. Watching this, I felt how often my suffering comes from insisting life should have stayed the same. Ants don’t confuse change with loss.

I trust the intelligence that moves through me

Ants don’t pause to figure everything out. They don’t need the whole picture to take the next step. This is something energy healing reminds us of: life already knows how to move. We are not required to manage it, only to stop blocking it with fear. We try to steer the river instead of floating in it, but the current knows the way.

As I watched, it became obvious: ants experience disruption without commentary. Humans experience disruption plus a running internal podcast.

The ants don’t ask, Why is this happening to me? They don’t narrate their survival. They adapt, and consciousness flows on.

That’s the gift of Antfirmations. They are not aspirational; they are observational. Spend some time watching ants, and I promise you, you will come up with your own universal truths.

One final truth rose as the line of ants re-formed.

Be the ant

Not heroically. Not perfectly. Not with certainty. Just continue. Our job is to keep moving. And if you can do this, you should be proud.

Eventually, I stepped over them and walked on, but something had shifted. Life felt less personal. Less dramatic. I was not meant to control the path; I was meant to stay in motion with it.

If you need a reminder of how awakening works, don’t look for a guru.

Look down.
