“Every human thought, word, or deed is based on fear or love. Fear is the energy that contracts, closes down, draws in, hides, hoards, and harms. Love is the energy that expands, opens up, sends out, reveals, shares, and heals. You have free choice about which of these to select.” — Neale Donald Walsch
Recent global and local events have created a wave of anxiety, touching the lives of many in Australia and beyond. While we cannot always predict how the world will evolve, we hold a sovereign power: the power to choose our response. By meeting challenges as opportunities for growth, we do more than just survive; we contribute to a positive shift for ourselves and our planet.
How do we begin this journey toward conscious resilience?
1. Reclaiming the Internal Landscape
The first step is becoming conscious of our emotional state and committing to radical self-care. Resilience isn’t about “toughing it out”; it’s about nurturing yourself on all levels.
- Daily Rituals: Even five minutes of self-Reiki or meditation can change your day.
- Energetic Care: Regularly clear and protect your energetic field. A “Shaman bath” (salt, bicarbonate soda, essential oils) or a Reiki session are powerful ways to bring back harmony and clear blockages.
- Curating Content: Be selective, consciously limit your intake of the news. Instead, fill that space with activities that ground you and bring genuine peace.
2. Creating a Sanctuary at Home
Your physical environment reflects your inner world. You can transform your home into a healing sanctuary using simple, sensory tools. Gentle music and essential oils are wonderful allies to ease the mind and uplift the spirit.
I find immense comfort in diffusing blends like Peace and Calming® (a soothing Young Living blend of Tangerine, Orange, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, and Blue Tansy) to create a soft environment for the whole family. Another favourite is Stress Away™, a unique blend of lime and vanilla that offers a unique soothing escape from the daily stresses.
3. Grounding and the Power of Reiki
Whatever happens in your life, look to the earth. A walk on the beach or standing barefoot on your lawn allows the earth’s magnetic field to provide a natural calming effect.
For me, Reiki was the catalyst for true change. Beyond just an energy practice, it is a method for healthy living that helps us “reprogram” the mind. When we learn to move beyond reactive cycles of anger, fear, and negativity, we become healthier and more joyful. That inner peace eventually ripples outward, affecting everyone we touch.
4. Finding Your Tribe
Human beings are inherently social, yet modern society has drifted away from the communal wisdom found in indigenous traditions. Resilience is easier to maintain when we connect with our tribe—those friends and family members who share our perspectives and offer a safe harbor. Feeling part of a community provides a vital sense of security and purpose.
5. Cultivating Creative Projects
The Earth is our school, and we are here to evolve. When life becomes stagnant, our energy drops. As Terence McKenna said, “The imagination is the golden pathway to everywhere.”
Action is the antidote to powerlessness. Join an art class, learn something new, or volunteer for a cause close to your heart. We cannot avoid change, but we can help shape the new world we wish to see by honing our creative powers.
