I love the word discernment, and I use it so often during client sessions. The energy of discernment is the space you create to choose between reaction or response, a place that emanates calmness, grace and poise and fosters integrity within oneself. Having discernment brings an air of self-confidence and trust in your own being.
So, what does it mean to be discerning?
Embracing discernment means you are no longer being a passive bystander in the flow of life. Instead, you become an active participant, consciously choosing your actions, responses, and behaviours. It is through discernment that you can give yourself the opportunity for self-mastery and navigate the complexities of your life with confidence.
One of the most beneficial qualities of discernment is the sense of calmness and clarity it can instil within you. In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, discernment becomes the steady anchor you need to remain grounded in the present moment and helps you to see through the noise to the heart of the matter.
At the core of discernment lies the recognition of self-responsibility. It is an acknowledgment that you are the architect of your own destiny. When you approach life with discernment, you no longer blame external circumstances or other people for your experiences. Instead, you recognise that your choices, however small or significant, have shaped the course of your life.
Discernment is a place where challenges become opportunities for growth, setbacks become lessons in resilience, and victories become affirmations of your inner strength, and it is through this filter of self-responsibility that you can reclaim your power and transform any obstacles into stepping stones towards your highest potential.
Choice is a fundamental and unique aspect of being human. Think of discernment as being the compass that guides you to navigate the many options you are presented with daily. When faced with a decision, big or small, discernment is the space that allows you to hone in on what aligns with your values, aspirations and purpose. In a world where information overload and external influences can so easily cloud your judgment, the art of discernment is fast becoming one of the most valuable tools to have in your toolbox.
It will empower you to make choices that are in alignment with your truest self, leading to a life filled with meaning, fulfilment, and abundance.
So here are three pointers to help you cultivate your discernment:
- Simple self-awareness – a willingness to explore your own beliefs and conditioning with curiosity and openness and identify your true values.
- Replace judgement with observation – to access your discernment requires you to be neutral and in a place of observation of the actions of yourself and others and not in judgement of those actions.
- Press the pause button – Before you react press the pause button and align with your own powerful discernment. Remind yourself that you have the choice in any moment to respond in a way that is true to beautiful you.
Remember that discernment is the invitation to your heart and your head to unite and make conscious choices in full awareness and self-responsibility and it is a continuous practice of self-discovery and growth that will help to enrich every aspect of YOU!
