Milestones and celebrations bring colour and meaning to our lives. Whether it’s a wedding, a birthday, or an anniversary, these events highlight moments worth cherishing. But it’s no secret that these occasions, as joyful as they are, can also feel overwhelming. The planning, the people, the logistics – it’s enough to make anyone’s chest tighten.

Why Do Celebrations Leave Us Feeling Overwhelmed?
Milestones bring a swirl of emotions–excitement, joy, gratitude. But they can also bring nerves around everything from coordinating logistics to managing expectations. Weddings, for example, can feel like walking a balance beam for brides and grooms trying to juggle family dynamics, finances, and time pressure. Even simple birthday celebrations can trigger emotions like guilt or regret when logistics or distance make it hard for everyone to gather.
April and May in my family are full of such milestones. April brings three shared birthdays for my mother, grandson, and niece on the same day. Then in May, I celebrate my 50th alongside my niece’s 18th. Across Australia, we’re spread far and wide, and it’s not always possible to all be in one place. While these celebrations are moments of love, they sometimes surface feelings of isolation or missing out when distance gets in the way.
If you relate, know that it’s entirely natural to feel this mix of highs and lows. But the good news is you can bring those emotions into balance with EFT Tapping.
Clinical EFT to Calm the Frenzy
If EFT is new to you, think of it as a blend of acupressure and modern psychology. Clinical EFT combines mindful focus on your emotions with tapping on key meridian points of the body. By doing this, you can reduce your body’s stress response, restore balance, and experience emotional calm.
Here’s how to use Clinical EFT to release nervous tension before or during a big event.
1. A Quick Check-In
Before tapping, pause and check in with yourself. How stressed do you feel about the situation? Assign a number between 0 and 10 (0 = totally calm, 10 = extremely stressed). This helps you track your progress.
2. Acknowledge the Emotion
Think of what’s weighing on your mind. Is it worry, dread, or a feeling of being overwhelmed? Be honest. Identifying the feeling helps the process work effectively.
For example, you might say, “I feel anxious about everything that could go wrong.”
3. Start the Setup Statement
Using two or three fingers of one hand, tap on the side of your opposite hand (the “karate chop point”), repeating:
“Even though I feel [insert feeling], I deeply and completely accept myself.”
For example:
“Even though I feel anxious about how the day will unfold, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Repeat three times. This step sets the stage for releasing tension.
4. Tap Through the Meridian Points
Now begin tapping through these points, as you voice what’s on your mind (adjust the statements to suit what feels true for you):
- Eyebrow (EB): “I feel so overwhelmed.”
- Side of Eye (SE): “What if things don’t go to plan?”
- Under Eye (UE): “I don’t know if I can juggle all this.”
- Under Nose (UN): “It’s all piling up so fast.”
- Chin (CH): “I just want things to run smoothly.”
- Collarbone (CB): “This stress is sitting in my shoulders.”
- Under Arm (UA): “Why does this feel so heavy right now?”
- Top Of Head (TH): “I’m carrying too much tension.”
5. Check Back In
Stop tapping and tune back into how you feel. Rate your stress again from 0 to 10. Has it eased even slightly? If not, try another round. Often just a few minutes is enough to feel a noticeable shift, like a tight knot unwinding itself.
Tapping Beliefs Into Your Day
Once you’ve reduced stress, EFT can also help instil positive energy. EFT Affirmation Tapping uses a shorter sequence, focusing only on the major points (Eyebrow to Top of Head). This is perfect on the day of your milestone, to support you in walking through the moment with confidence and ease.
Here’s what an Affirmation Tapping round looks like:
1. Choose a Positive Belief
Pick a calming or empowering statement that feels good to focus on today. For example:
- “Today my energy will remain calm and at ease.”
- “I choose to enjoy this day with love and gratitude.”
2. Tap Through the Points
Using only the following points, repeat your affirmation out loud or silently as you tap. Go slow and really connect with the words. Here’s an example:
- Eyebrow (EB): “Today my energy will remain calm and at ease.”
- Side of Eye (SE): “I release what’s beyond my control.”
- Under Eye (UE): “I’m going to enjoy every single moment.”
- Under Nose (UN): “I feel grateful for the love and support in my life.”
- Chin (CH): “I’m confident and steady no matter what comes my way.”
- Collarbone (CB): “I choose joy and ease in everything I do.”
- Top of Head (TH): “Today is a celebration, and I’m here to take it all in with calm energy.”
Repeat this round as needed for a steady and grounded mindset.
Emotional Connection Across Distance
For those of us celebrating milestones apart from loved ones, it’s vital to allow space for those feelings of longing. EFT can help address the ache of missing family while also reinforcing connection through gratitude.
A simple tapping variation might include affirming statements like:
- “Even though I feel distant from my family, I deeply and completely honour my love for them.”
- “I know we are always connected through our hearts, no matter where we are.”
Moments like these are an opportunity to hold dual truths. Yes, the distance might hurt. But that doesn’t erase the care and bonds we’ve nurtured over time, even across borders.
