From Chaos to Clarity by Julia Van der Sluys

Why Your Messy Story Is Exactly Where Your Book Begins

We’ve been sold the myth that our book must come after we’ve got it all figured out.

I call bull.

As a publisher for heart-led visionaries, I’ve seen the same thing again and again:
The messy middle is where your book wants to be born.

In Human Design, I carry Channel 64–47, the Storytelling Alchemist. It’s the gift of translating confusion into clarity — chaos into frameworks — lessons into pages that set others free.

Most people think their story is “too messy” or “not finished yet.” They say:
“Once I’m healed…”
“Once I’m certain…”
“Once I know exactly what it all means…”

But the truth? Your book is not about being perfect — it’s about being real.

Your chaos holds a frequency that someone else needs to feel seen in. When you share how you moved through it (or are moving through it), you become a guide for those still lost in it.

That’s the power of storytelling alchemy.

So how do you start writing when your mind feels like a tangled ball of yarn?

Here’s how I help my clients do it — and how you can do it too:

1. Trust the Mess
Start by dumping everything out. Journal. Voice note. Make a list of “life moments that cracked me open.” It doesn’t need order — just oxygen.

2. Find the Thread
Look at what repeats. The lesson that shows up in every chapter. That’s your golden thread — your book’s heartbeat.

3. Map It, Lightly
You don’t need a rigid outline. Just loose containers: “This chapter is about… this part of me, this moment, this shift.” Structure brings safety for your nervous system.

And Remember….

Your life isn’t confusing because you failed. It’s rich because you lived.

Your job as an author isn’t to make it tidy — it’s to make it true.

So, write it in the mess, for the ones still wandering.

You’re the alchemist.
Your story is the gold.
