Have You Forgotten How To Have Fun? By Trish Rock

A beautiful friend of mine reminded me this morning that this life is here to have fun with.

A poignant statement and perfect timing right now for her, and for me. I suspect perfect timing for so many others too, so if you have been drawn here, it’s not by accident.

There is a favourite quote of mine that seems to stay in my head whenever I catch myself with resting bitch face, or simply just not in the fun zone. It’s from the movie Steel Magnolias and it’s a line that Shirley McLean said:

“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a very bad mood for 40 years.”

I love this quote because for most of my life I have taken everything so seriously, and fun has only been on those odd occasions when influenced by drugs or alcohol, or a moment of letting go of what I ‘think’ I ‘should’ be doing.

My underlying story has contributed a lot to this as I have been working hard to avoid rejection for most of my life. And working hard – is the opposite to fun!

I feel for so many of us who were also brought up with different ideas, rules, and learnings such as:

  • “Life is serious! Act that way!”
  • “Stop daydreaming and do something serious with your life!”
  • “You must take life seriously!”
  • “Your career is a serious business!”
  • “Raising your children is a serious responsibility”

And this

  • “If you are having fun you are not being responsible and doing what you are meant to do here in this life, building security and safety etc etc”

What was it for you? Perhaps you have an unconscious story that is running your joy meter too!

One of the many reasons we feel good when we are having fun is because we are back in alignment with our innate love and bliss. Joy and fun are up there at the top of the emotional scale, so of course we will feel great!

One of the many reasons we choose not to have fun and go the serious path is the judgement of others, the going against the ‘serious’ authority figures in our lives and of course, the many years of believing fun is non-productive and non-supporting in our physical lives.

I would like to invite you to consider this perspective today:

What if fun, joy, and laughter were the way to instant manifestation, to anything you desired?

I can honestly tell you that this is what is happening for my friend, and it is also what I notice in my life when I stop being so serious about it all. Try it. See what happens in your life!

In my powerful and uplifting work with clients, one of the main things I can intuitively bring is peace. Peace with those old stories. Peace with those old beliefs. Peace with the running of the ‘serious meter’ for so long based on what you have been holding on to for so long.

And when you are at peace with all that has transpired so far in your life, then you can invite more joy and fun into those areas.

Finding peace with who you are will manifest into more fun!
