AMOR VINCIT OMNIA by Gillian Marshall

The title is Latin for love triumphs over everything. It was coined by the poet Virgil around 38BC and signifies that love is an unstoppable force capable of overcoming obstacles, adversity and fear.

What would I do for love?

Driving is not my favourite activity. I have very little confidence on the road and prefer to leave the driving to Stuart, my husband.

When Stuart retired recently, he took up a new hobby-medical appointments! We’ve both hit that age where our physical bodies need more maintenance.

A few appointments involved having a “responsible person” to drive him home afterwards.

That would be me!

I’m a good navigator and can find car parks but driving to hospital appointments?! No way!

The latest appointment was at a big hospital. I don’t know who was more nervous- Stuart or me!

Before I set off, I’d done a contemplative exercise and asked my inner guide to help me navigate the roads and carparks. I sang HU, an ancient and sacred name for Divine Spirit or Divine Love.

I focused on my love for Stuart, and it settled my nerves. My inner guide assured me that all would be well, and I surrendered the morning to Spirit. I also played a recording of people singing HU in the car while I was driving and imagined my inner guide sitting in the back seat, cheering me on!

I navigated the multistorey car park and parked the car relatively easily.

On my way home from leaving Stuart to have his procedure, the title of this article came to mind.

I realised that with the help of my inner guide and the HU, I had overcome my fear of driving so that I could lovingly support Stuart.

Last year gifted me a few personal challenges, and I had felt closed off for a few months. I say “gifted” because it’s when life is hardest that we unfold the most, spiritually. After this experience, I started to feel something move slightly, and divine love started to flow through me again.

I know that with my inner support team, I can face life and grow spiritually from my experiences.

Singing HU is for everyone, regardless of faith and is a key to spiritual growth and connection to Divine Love.

Here’s how to sing HU. It’s from the book Eckankar, the Art of Spirituality by Harold Klemp, page 51, titled A daily Practice.

Begin today. Find a quiet spot, shut your eyes and let love for something dear to you enter your heart. Sing HU gently aloud, then silently for ten to twenty minutes.

Look and listen for the love that returns to you. This is a law of the universe: Love returns love.
