Frozen in time: When everything feels like it’s about to fall apart

Words by Sarah King

That moment where you can’t move. You feel heavy. Stuck in the mud. You know it’s all about to crumble, yet you can’t make a move to save anything. The quiet state no one talks about when high-functioning people shut down instead of rising. The nervous system crash.

You hear the ping of the emails popping off.
You see notification after notification roll over the screen of your phone.
That’s on top of the countless messages left unanswered in the moment that will be rediscovered months later.

Sitting in front of the laptop, opening the pages required and staring blankly. What happens next? What gets done? Close the laptop and walk away.

Turn to the binge of Netflix, show after show, season after season, clicking on the next recommendation.
That can be controlled. Watching the same safety shows that allow a sense of security.

The cocoon that the frozen nervous system creates to avoid the outside world. Any more stimulation might just be the tipping point.

You are not lazy. You don’t need to “just push harder”.
You are at capacity and beyond.
Past the stretch of growth, almost at the snap.

Here we come back to the basics of what we practise during the good times, when life is running smoothly.

Put the fear of failing on mute. And listen to your body. What is it communicating to you?

You probably can’t hear it…

Go inward.

Pushing the thoughts of finding a new dream, pushing a business, manifesting bigger, better or shinier are not for this moment in time.

Put down the phones and devices.
Walk in silence.
Sit in the quiet.
Stand with your bare feet on the grass.
Dance in the sunlight.

Breathe slow, deep and mindfully.
To stretch the body, unfolding the contractions and taking up space in the world.

Allow yourself to BE.
To be in this world. Dropping the mind chatter. Dropping the guilt. Drop the judgement.

Allow your inner workings to feel the safety they desire again.
No time expectations. Consistent self-care.

And when you begin to feel the thaw…
The energy beginning to flow again. Movement that is not forced. The mind has created the space naturally.

Reset your energetic field.

Bring forward all of the mind pop-ins that were building up during the great freeze and the ones that were swirling extra loud…

Any limiting beliefs…

It is time to release this energy that has amplified in the mind and physical body.

It’s time for a fresh start.

With all of the (as I like to call them…) icky beliefs, thoughts and feelings…
Handwrite them onto paper, feeling the release of each one.

Fold the paper into a square. Its completion. And burn the paper. You have released this energy and opened the flow of the body, mind and soul to allow energy to ease through once more.

Time will unfold with ease. No rush. No force. Just the grace of being human and putting the practices and tools that we learn in the upbeat, positive times to use when our nervous system needs the most tender loving care.
