Living the Illuminated Life by Lee Finkelstein

Like most people, I try to live the most grateful, honest and loving life I can. Each word, each moment, each deed, I try to be the best I can be. I also try to find spiritual lessons and meaning in each event in my life.

My husband and I knew we had to downsize to free up much needed capital so that we could continue to do all the things we loved. So, we planned and worked out a possible timeline.

What we didn’t realise was that life had other plans for us. Each time we attempted to take a step forward, we seemed to be catapulted backwards. We had a malfunctioning hot water heater, non-working garage door; damage to the roof, fences and gates caused by an unexpected and rare cyclone; water leaks from two upstairs bathrooms and other numerous costly and time-consuming problems.

It seemed that, for whatever unknown reason, we could not move forward as planned and by our desired dates. Instead of taking a few months, it felt like forever. We were utterly baffled.

Then we finally sold our current home and the search for a new one began. Once again, the stumbling blocks appeared. Illness, world events and local problems changed our plans. Then suddenly the road ahead cleared, and the stumbling blocks became stepping stones. The almost perfect home appeared, in the best location, and we were able to purchase it.

It was then that I understood that I needed to listen to life’s rhythm, to the inner guidance we were no doubt receiving, to understand that we may be going in the best direction, but not in our time frame.

It would happen in God’s time, not necessarily mine.

I realised that I needed to move away from my physical self to my real self, Soul, to allow all life’s lessons and meanings to filter through.

To do this I sat comfortably, in a quiet place, and concentrated my attention on my spiritual eye. Then I sang the word HU, filling my heart with love. In this quiet receptive state, I was able to open myself to the lessons and wisdom of life.

Harold Klemp described HU in his book The Wonder Within You on page 3: “The word HU has a unique ability to lift you into a higher state of awareness. It can recharge you spiritually. You know how you plug a device in to charge the battery when it runs low? Well, similarly, you can plug yourself into the HU and charge yourself.”

By using this wonderful mantra, I was able to change my view. Instead of telling God what I wanted, I listened to the wisdom of the ages, of life’s rhythms and patterns to open me to divine love and guidance.
