Part 2: Incorporating Art into Your Self-Discovery Practice by Shanah Michele, Mind Body Education

To incorporate art into your self-discovery journey, carve out dedicated time for creative exploration. Create a comfortable and inspiring space filled with art supplies that resonate with you. Give yourself permission to experiment without judgment or expectations. Trust your instincts and let your intuition guide you as you use art as a powerful tool for self-expression.

In this exercise, our goal is to empower you to embrace the true essence of freedom of expression. As a weekly practice, find a form of artistic expression that feels genuine and authentic to you in this present moment. Perhaps it entails dipping your fingers into vibrant paints and indulging in uninhibited finger painting, allowing yourself to unleash your creativity without any constraints or plans. Alternatively, you can turn up some music and let your body dance freely, tapping into the joyful spirit of your inner child who yearns to dance before the world.

However, we want this exercise to flow naturally and effortlessly, reflecting your unique self. Our only request is that you utilise this prompt as a catalyst to unleash your authentic self. So, let go of self-doubt and permit art to serve as a conduit for self-discovery and self-expression.

In conclusion, art has the power to serve as a catalyst for self-discovery, allowing individuals to unlock their true potential and embrace their authentic selves. Through creative art therapies, individuals can embark on a transformative journey of personal growth, breaking free from societal expectations and exploring their innermost desires, fears, and emotions.

The act of creating art provides a safe space for self-expression and reflection, enabling individuals to tap into their subconscious mind and uncover hidden aspects of their identity.

As Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” This insightful quote reminds us that creativity and artistic expression are inherent qualities within us all, and it is our duty to nurture and preserve them throughout our lives. Through art, we can rediscover the childlike wonder, our authenticity and imagination that often gets lost in the responsibilities of adulthood.
