It is an absolute honour to be featured as this month’s cover girl. With this privilege comes a deep sense of responsibility to you, the reader. In my column this month, I share a heartfelt story about assisting an injured kangaroo, highlighting the power of compassion and healing in even the most challenging moments.
My uncle always advised whilst driving to keep an eye on the two cars ahead of you and the two cars behind you. It’s a great way to stay aware of your surroundings and anticipate any further potential hazards ahead. Recently I was driving along a country road where my eyes caught a glimpse in the rear vision mirror. In the distance, I saw something catapult into the air. It was startling, large and an unusual sight.
“Was that a kangaroo I saw flying through the air?”.
There was a silver utility traveling in front of my vehicle, suddenly it stopped and pulled over to the side of the road. Trusting my gut instinct and intuition, I turned the vehicle around and continued back. When I arrived, I saw a gentleman standing by the side of the road, visibly in shock and searching for the kangaroo. I instinctively approached and immediately realised that I could offer Reiki and energy healing—until professional help arrived. I turned to the man, still processing what had happened and reassured him I would stay and assist until WIRES, the animal rescue service, arrived. We walked up and down the roadside for several minutes, listening closely. We could hear the distressed sounds of an animal nearby, but despite our efforts, we couldn’t pinpoint its location.
It was heartbreaking knowing the kangaroo needed help but remained hidden.
Walking a little further out in the bush, I encountered a large male kangaroo, severely injured and lying near the edge of the road. The moment I saw him, my heart sank, as he was vulnerable and in pain, separated from his natural world.
I told the man accompanying me, “I can assist the animal with Reiki and energy healing.”
Even in the face of such distress, I felt a calm reassurance that energy work could bring him some relief, easing his suffering in this crucial moment. As I placed my hands gently above the kangaroo’s body, I connected with the universal life force that Reiki channels. It felt like a bridge between us,
as if the energy of the land, the animal, and my healing intentions all came together in a peaceful exchange. The kangaroo’s breathing slowed, his body relaxed, and though he was still injured, there seemed to be a sense of calm within him.
The world felt small—just me, the kangaroo, and the energy around us.
I hoped that as the professionals arrived to assist him, the healing energy exchange would continue to support him on his journey.
The experience was a reminder of the profound impact energy healing can have, even in the wildest and most challenging circumstances. Reiki knows no boundaries, and its presence can be felt wherever there is a need for peace, healing, and love.

As we enter the remainder of the holiday season and prepare for the Chinese New Year of the Snake, it’s an important time to reflect on the significance of safety, particularly when traveling. The energy of the Snake invites us to embrace wisdom and careful steps, reminding us to be mindful of our actions and surroundings. Let us move forward with awareness, ensuring that we travel safely and with respect for the journey—whether on the road or in life.
