On the 27th of October, I launched a new offer – SACRED COMPANIONS: A PEACEFUL TRANSITION ™
As a Mama to numerous furred family members, I know what a roller coaster it is to say ‘goodbye’. Over the past few years I have said ‘au revoir’ to Doll (my mare) and De Brucski (soul dog), as well as various other family members (two and four footed). At times I thought that I would drown in the grief and the emotions. Some days getting out of bed was a huge accomplishment. Hiding out in bed for the whole day, however, was never an option for me as we still had other beloved animal companions for whom we needed to care. This is something for which I am grateful. I don’t know how far I would have gone down the ‘rabbit hole’ of grief if I hadn’t had family members here to help me keep grounded and to remind me of the renewal of the circle of life. I found that with each family member who passed there were some parts of my process that were the same and some that were different.
Below are some of the tools that I used to help myself alchemise my grief.
- I gave myself permission to feel. One of the hardest things that I found initially was to allow myself to acknowledge the grief and feel my feelings. In some ways it seemed so much easier to ‘shut down’ and not process what was going on and how I felt about it all. However I found that that way led to unhappiness. So I started to give myself permission to feel my emotions – the good, the bad and everything in between.
- Asked for support. I found that surrounding myself with supportive friends and family helped. Having people in my life who could hold ‘space’ for me on those days where I was feeling fragile was a blessing.
- Created rituals. I created rituals that brought me back into my heart space and helped to assimilate the learnings from my journey.
- Allowed myself to receive wisdom. I allowed myself to receive wisdom from the transition process. To watch my beloved animal companions pass over the rainbow bridge and be joyful and happy again was comforting after seeing them in pain and distress.
SACRED COMPANIONS: A PEACEFUL TRANSITION ™ was created to support other pet guardians facing a similar situation. In our western world, grief and loss are not subjects that are often discussed – and certainly not the grief and loss of beloved animal companions. It helps when you know that you are not alone and that there is a way forward and through this transition time with peace and grace. If you would like to know more about Sacred Companions, go to
