The Oracle by Sharne Young

Considering it is Mother’s Day in May (in Australia), like most of us, I have been thinking about my mum. How she inspired me to be the best I could be. Allowed me to be myself, learn from my own mistakes and stand on my own feet.

I loved her creativity, her thirst for spiritual knowledge and her dedication to practicing what she knew.  She was the inspiration for ‘The Channeled Galaxy Oracle’ cards. Many of the stories in the cards came from her concepts and short stories.

I thought I would share one such story that is not in The Channeled Galaxy Oracle.  It’s a story I love because it shows her heart.  To all mums out there, much love.

The Oracle. (written in 1991 by Diane Young).

In the long ago past, so far in the past that there is no memory, or evidence of that time, there lived an oracle.  The oracle was of the cetacean tribe, a whale, and her life with her pod was bliss.

She was an oracle of all the ocean. Of course, there were places in the ocean where the whales preferred to visit only when necessary for the sake of harmony and peaceful co-existence.

One such place was the …. well, nowadays we would give it a name, and call it a meeting place…. The Mer didn’t call it anything, it was just there, a convenient place to meet with friends, or trade things, or listen to the news.  The Mer shared their habitat with ocean dwellers and there were plenty.

The Mer had once lived in the same dimensional space as we humans.  Today we place them in children’s stories and call them myths and legends, creatures of fantasy and imagination.  But you see the Mer were here. The Mer and our oracle are what this story is about.

We begin our story in a time of upheaval.  The Earth is about to go through another huge physical change.  Landmasses are about to rise and fall, changing the course of currents, and therefore the supplies of food and the climate for the ocean dwellers.

The oracle not only read the signs; the changes in the water and the air, but she saw above the surface changes to the light, and the weather, and she felt the pressure in the Earth’s crust. Because she was an ancient oracle, and pure of thought, her interpretations were very detailed and impressively correct.  After informing her pod of the changes and events to come, she knew she would have to travel alone to the meeting place of the Mer, there to discuss with the oracles of the Mer the impending upheaval.

Smaller whales, like dolphins, had their own warning systems, they knew many things, and they would be able to spread the word fast.  Whale song penetrated the landmass and so early warnings were sent across the planet.  Our oracle approached the Mer with calls and songs to introduce herself, and they all came to meet her.  The meeting place was crowded with Mer waiting quietly for the oracle to tell of her findings.  A massive landmass was going to break up and sink and the Mer were sad because their friends lived there.

A great civilization was about to disappear into the depths, leaving behind remnants of mountaintops to become clusters of islands in the future.  The people who lived there would scatter to the four winds and their descendants would forget these times.  And so, the Mer went to the shores of Lemuria and up the rivers of the land where they warned of the coming upheaval and changes.  The people there had heeded their own oracles, and many were already preparing for the ways of old to give way to the new, and the different.  Where and when they could the Mer assisted the people of the land with their preparations.

Our oracle went back to the pod, and they moved into warmer currents in other oceans until they could return to their old territory.  After many thousands of years, the Mer met up with men of another evolution and knew then that they would never live well together.  The Mer eventually moved away into another dimensional world. So apart from the occasional meetings, we humans lost touch with the Mer.  The whales stayed, recovered and still live and play in the depths even above the sunken landmass, but they have not forgotten.  The knowledge of that land, and those people, is just like yesterday for them.

The Writer’s experience of the story:

This story follows my heart, as I love whales and feel as though I have personally known and come close to many in various lifetimes.  Our whales are the carriers of vast information, and we need them to help us survive on Mother Earth. I have also had some lovely experiences with the Mer people during visualisation experiences in meditation: I was once taken on a ‘swim’ into the deepest ocean and shown underwater volcanoes spewing lava and forming new mountains under the oceans.
