Write your own guidebook: reclaiming authority over your energy and talents by Nate Mico

One of the best pieces of spiritual advice I’ve ever received was surprisingly simple: “Write your own guidebook”.

It came from one of my spiritual teachers and mentors, Kachina Ma’an. I remember thinking, isn’t a teacher meant to give you the guidebook? Isn’t that the point?

Instead, she handed the pen back to me.

Through her work with the Umana Technique and her broader teachings on expanding consciousness, Kachina has always taught in a way that expands you while returning your authority to you. The message underneath the modality is clear: your awareness matters. Your discernment matters. Your lived experience matters.

At first, I thought it meant planning better or setting clearer goals. Over time, I realised it meant something far more powerful. Stop waiting for someone else to tell you how to live. Stop assuming someone else holds the manual to your energy, your gifts, your path.

We have a curious relationship with guidebooks. We love them. We search for them. We follow them. Teachers, mentors and systems can illuminate the way forward, and I value the structured spiritual training I’ve received. But structure is a catalyst, not a substitute for self-trust.

If we’re honest, beneath our hunger for guidance is often something quieter. We don’t fully trust ourselves.

Somewhere along the way, we absorbed the idea that authority lives outside us. That someone more experienced or more awakened must know better. So when it comes to our own energy and talents, we hesitate. We look outward. We wait for permission.

But no one has lived your life. No one has felt through your body. No one has navigated your exact blend of strengths, instincts and experiences.

You are the only person qualified to write your manual.

And you are not starting from nothing.

Whether you see it spiritually or simply as human evolution, we carry ancient intelligence within us. We are not blank slates. We are continuity. Consciousness has been refining itself through us for generations.

In the Umana Technique, there is an understanding that awareness can expand beyond perceived limitations. That what feels fixed may not be fixed at all. But that expansion does not come from leaning on the teacher. It comes from stepping into your own authority.

A modality can activate you. It cannot live your life for you.

You have survived every single day so far. Your body regulates itself without instruction. Your intuition has guided you more times than you realise. Your creativity has solved problems without a script.

You are far more capable than you think.

Writing your own guidebook does not mean rejecting wisdom. It means repositioning it. External teachings become reference points, not commandments. Inspiration, not identity.

A teacher can open a door. You still have to walk through it.

Writing your guidebook begins with honest questions.

  • What do I do instinctively … without knowing.
  • What energises me?
  • When do I feel aligned?
  • Where do I override my instincts to meet expectations?
  • How does my body respond when something feels right?
  • What do I… know?
  • Where can I help others grow?

These are practical questions. They shape the operating system of your life.

Many of us are living by inherited manuals. Family patterns. Cultural scripts. Old survival strategies. We don’t realise we are following someone else’s blueprint until exhaustion or misalignment forces us to pause.

Writing your own guidebook is an act of responsibility. It means no longer outsourcing authority. It means acknowledging your creative power. You may not control every circumstance, but you shape your response.

And your power is not small.

If humanity has existed since the beginning of time, then the intelligence that built civilisations and created art lives within us now. Not in an inflated way. In a grounded, human way.

The same awareness that shaped history is present when you decide to trust yourself.

And if self-trust feels distant, sometimes the answer is not more thinking. It is activation.

The Umana Technique works with the higher chakras to expand awareness and clear limitations at a consciousness level. It creates space to hear yourself more clearly and reconnect with the part of you that already knows.

Writing your own guidebook becomes easier when your perception expands.

The goal is not to follow someone else’s manual.

It is to activate your awareness so fully that you trust your own.

Write your own guidebook.

You’ve been holding the pen all along.
