You Are Not Everyone’s Cup of Tea By Eleni Seitis

Sometimes you are someone’s cup of coffee.

Sometimes you are someone’s hot chocolate.

Sometimes you are someone’s glass of wine.

Maybe you are someone’s hot toddy.

Maybe you are someone’s lemon and honey.

Or maybe you are someone’s sparkling mineral water.

Then again, maybe you are someone’s beer.

It’s acceptable to be any one of these. You cannot be all to everyone. People will like some things about you and not others. Yet, there are some who love everything about you with you wondering what you did to deserve such adoration. Still others will keep away from you because they don’t like you or the things you do or say.  And that is perfectly acceptable too.

BE AUTHENTICALLY YOU

Don’t try to be someone or something you are not. You may wish for different body parts, colouring, better voice, more intellect, better financials, and a myriad of so many things. If you desire something different to what you have, create a plan of action to make it happen. You can only be you, the one looking at you in the mirror. Otherwise, you end up becoming muddy water, all icky inside and not to anyone’s taste, even your own.

When we give our energy, time, resources, money and power to others, without really wanting to, we become so attached to them energetically that they end up controlling us in every way. It can even get to the stage where we feel we must get their permission to even think and breathe. Have you ever had that experience? If not, then be mindful to only give to others what you have decided is acceptable and true for you to give, not under coercion or persuasion and not under uncomfortableness or even under the guise of love (particularly if it is in exchange for favours).

How do you move away from this if you are in it, and how do you make sure you never do it again?

Using the analogy of the different beverages, what type of beverage would you say you were? Think about that for a minute. The idea of looking at who you are on a beverage scale is to show that you are unique, you are special, you are complete, and you are perfect in your imperfection. Some liquids can blend together nicely, while others just clash, and some completely overpower another. Decide on who are and who you absolutely will not be, draw that line in the sand.

Feel into your gut when you are around people…do they lift you up, make you feel good, or is there a feeling that something is not quite right about the way you are relating or communicating? It is okay to politely walk away from someone if you don’t have a positive vibe from them. It can be difficult to explain to someone who you care about that their energy and your energy are just not gelling together in that moment. Maybe it will feel better at another time, and maybe it won’t.

In the time away from the other person, determine what feeling was present that made you feel uncomfortable. Were you wanting something from them that they were unwilling to give or were they wanting something from you that you were uncomfortable in giving? Sometimes previous history with another can create stories in the way we think of them. Are these stories true? False stories will colour our thoughts of them which could sway what we think of them. Remember, when we embellish a beverage, it may change how the beverage tastes, yet at the end of the day, deep down we are who we are. And they are who they are. You can only change you, and for some people that can be a full-time job. Make sure you love who you are…that is easier said than done for many people. We tend to love only parts of ourselves, not the whole self. That is partly why we can give our energy over to another because we want to be loved by them. Love you first, and they will authentically love you because of who you are, not someone you are pretending to be, or aiming to be.
