Julia Van Der SluysI get it, when you decide to plunge into your book – you can go down a rabbit hole of research, classes, and all the things to learn how to do this thing.
I am a 1/3 Generator so this is TOTALLY my thing, so I truly, truly get it.
Here is what I also get.
What is going to make this book so special? That is going to bring your dream boat soul peeps into your world and make a shift for them?
It is YOU!
And nothing but being you is going to bring that to your book!
It is in the way you write, the jargon you use, the picture you paint.
That is something that cannot be taught, or you wouldn’t want to be taught, because then it isn’t actually you, but a ‘you’ that you are trying to be.
The world needs your true authenticity rather than a perfectly curated book. There are plenty of those out in the world already! What readers need from you, is you being you!
If you find that hard to do when you are typing out your story – voice record it and use a transcribe like Google Notes. Sometimes youR own voice note taking app on your phone also has the capabilities to do this, or Otter. There are so many out there, you just have to play to with the one that feels good and transcribes it best for you.
This way you get the nuances of you when you speak, as that can be different to how you write, especially if it isn’t usually something that you do, it can be hard to type you through your fingers. You can always cull/add in later but at least the bare bones are all YOU!
If you use quirky words, sayings, passion words (aka swear words) put them in your book!!!! These are a part of you and will make you more relatable even if someone has to google to know what the heck you are talking about hehehehe.
If you are writing more on your modalities or similar, still pop in a little anecdote of you in there, whether it is something you shifted by doing that process, or a quirky little story about it, or even how you feel writing about it. By relating it back to you in a brief way, it makes it seem approachable and doable as they are reading a firsthand experience of it, and again you are giving them a bit of you in the process.
