Healing isn’t a light-hearted journey. It’s not all sunshine and roses; it’s often a demanding process, and the deeper the trauma, the more intense the work to heal it.
Many times, I hear people say, “Oh, I’ve dealt with that and closed the door on it.” When I hear this, I often see someone who has tried to heal but found the process overwhelming, and so they shut the door on it. But trauma has a way of creeping back in—it resurfaces unexpectedly, catching us off guard.
There’s a common misconception that trauma only results from major catastrophic events. But really, trauma can stem from everyday life. What about the child who grows up in a household with emotional neglect? Or the parent who was physically present but emotionally unavailable, perhaps due to their own struggles or addictions? These situations shape us profoundly. Trauma isn’t about whether it’s “big” or “small”; it’s about how it affects you. Only you can understand its impact on your life, and no one else can dictate that for you.
Trauma can linger, passing from generation to generation, until someone strong enough decides to face it. Healing is not just about breaking free for yourself; it’s about breaking the chain for those who come after you. Traditionally, we know two main ways to handle trauma:
- Top-Down Approach – where we talk to therapists, counsellors, or friends who can offer guidance.
- Medication – where we use medicines to manage daily life, sometimes helping to numb the intensity of what we feel.
Then, there’s the Bottom-Up Approach, which Root-Cause Therapy is based on. This method focuses on allowing the body to experience and process the pain, trauma, or memories at the heart of the issue. Here, instead of avoiding the discomfort, we engage with it fully. We allow ourselves to revisit the moments, understand the origins, and release the emotional weight we’ve carried for so long.
This deep work allows us to uncover the “why” behind our pain, the “when” it began, and the “how” we can release it. Often, the best healing journeys involve a blend of all three approaches: talking it through, balancing the brain chemistry when needed, and facing the pain head-on.
At Dragonfly Blue, we focus primarily on the bottom-up approach. Here, healing is heavy work, but it’s transformative. It’s where buried pain rises, is acknowledged, and is let go. It’s where answers come through feeling, seeing, and understanding the stories we’ve held onto. In this process, you regain control over your life, letting go of the pain that has shaped you.
Root-Cause Therapy helps us trace the origins of trauma, working directly with the subconscious to identify and release blocks. Healing isn’t about adding anything; it’s about uncovering what’s already within. You already have the power to heal; sometimes, all it takes is a guiding hand.
