CONSCIOUSNESS IN CELEBRATION by Dom Livkamal

Hello my lovelies, how are you today? 

So when you are out there shopping and getting ready for celebrations. Everything you buy is a vote with your wallet for what you want to see more of!

Its everywhere you go! Your vote counts. It’s so true. Every time you buy something, you are saying a big “yes” for the continuance of that product, service, offering. So let’s think about what are we actually saying yes to? 

When I talk about consciousness I am discussing thoughtfulness, consideration, forethought and forward thinking to get us through this festive season which is unusual for everyone. 2020 was a very different year for us all. And now its Christmas! Think about how you want that to play out. 

Thoughtfulness means we think about what we are doing and what we want to achieve and celebrate for the season. It means we think about the process and we then act accordingly. To me this means I don’t use fast commerce, I don’t use one use plastics and throw away products. I don’t buy what was made in poverty such as child labor, multi national exploited purchases, unfair working conditions and participate willingly in the slavery trade of 2020 globally. Thoughtfulness also gets closer to home and I consider buying local, clean, organic, ethical and fair trade, I also make things for gifts, up cycle my decorations and festive season celebratory processes. And, I don’t go looking for the new latest trends. 

Consideration means I am able to think about what I am doing and hold compassion and love in my heart for the decisions I made while I was being thoughtful in my planning. I need to consider the impacts that my actions hold for the world and people around me. I need to consider the current climate and adapt my celebrations and my actions around what is actually going on and not what it was in the past. 

Forethought means I need to think ahead and to be forward thinking knowing that what I do today has an impact on the future of me, my family, my community and our planet. It’s a new way of being for everyone and I am open to seeing how beautiful this can be. To know that I am leaving my footprints, not taking anything but memories, beauty and sustainable celebrations. 

I hope you can join me in this process. It might not be so easy to start with, but when we think about the amount of toxicity and the oceans of rubbish we are already dealing with, the toxicity in foods too, adding more nutrition and freshness to our celebrations. To celebrate with grace and beauty. To offer devotional service to celebrating. It’s something to think about right? Consciousness in celebration. Happy festive planning and celebrating.
