Hello everyone, my name is Greg Beerling, and I would like to thank the Holistic Bliss Magazine for allowing me to become a regular columnist over the next 12 months.
I am currently a Registered, Practising Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner in Brisbane, coming up to my 30th year in the Health industry.
With a mechanical engineering background in fitting and machining, I have a background that few in this industry will have.
I hopefully can bring a different perspective to readers of this magazine of our industry, mixing both conventional medical principles, with the laterally minded principles that traditional Chinese Medicine gives me. With these, I’m able to create connections and associations that aren’t always in conventional medical theories; this allows me to interpret symptoms and signs that aren’t well made clear by this analysis. The difference allows me to be very pragmatic as a therapist and gain an alternative understanding for my clients.
I am enthusiastic about communicating differently and about the methods and techniques available to our industry, having had experience with and exposure to 8 to 10 different styles of acupuncture commonly used around the world.
The duration of experience and exposure of my 30 years has allowed me to gain a broad understanding of the reasoning and rationality behind the way these methods and principles guide the selection and formulation of treatment regimens; some of these varieties you may have come into contact with when you previously attended an acupuncturist’s clinic.
I imagine the explanations you may have received, if you have attended other acupuncturists’ sessions, can be quite mysterious and mystical in nature. This may increase the possibility of confusion about what’s going on, and leave you scratching your head with misunderstanding.
This situation is not uncommon with many who attend my clinic, relating the same problem when consulting other conventional medical therapists for the condition they sought help for.
It is helpful in this situation to have a parallel framework to gain understanding from, as all acupuncturists have a medical background within their training. This often leaves other therapist classes short of the helpful dual perspective that both systems used at the same time allow recognition of other collective influences to help clear up the misunderstanding.
I regularly describe Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to my clients in terms familiar to their background experiences. The familiarity of a situation they may have in their lives, mirrored to the condition, outlining the similarities of the processes and progress of the trouble they seek assistance for, with what parts of the anatomy and physiology that is going wrong, can give them insight into what would otherwise, as mentioned, leave them with fear and uncertainty.
I welcome feedback and inquiries regarding topics and broad subject matter. If it can be kept general, as individual circumstances cannot be dealt with in this forum, I can then address any misunderstanding and mystery any have with the Therapy and even differences with other needling-type treatment methods
I look forward to being the guide we all need to be in the health industry
