So many of us take up as small a space as possible.
Be the people pleaser because then we are “good”.
Do not follow our hearts because that would be selfish…
And the list can go on and on and on… right???
Because we all have these excuses to one degree or another. Some like to be extra achieving and have a good handful of those on hand.. Others one or two they like to pluck out to use.
And this is where you as a would-be author come in as a guide.
Not only does writing a book show your path to others that may be journeying down a similar path.
Perhaps it is showing the modalities of choice that you used or are a pro in.
Maybe it is showing off your expertise.
But it is also showing that you had these excuses and you made peace with them and overcame them, and SHOWS them a pathway they could possibly try.
It also is your journey and while you might have lived through all this a thousand times, there is a healing and next level that takes place when you write about it. When you relive it to an extent and see things from the you that you are now.
It is giving a permission slip to yourself and others to be the best version of you that you want to be.
That is what writing can do for you and your readers.
It allows them to see that they bloody matter and that they are worth letting go of the excuses.
Even if you are not ready to write that book…. Here are some tippy tips to start taking up space…
Practical Tips to Start Giving Your Voice Space:
- Jot down one excuse you’ve been holding onto (e.g., “I’m not ready,” “No one will care what I have to say”). Then, write one counter-truth beside it (“I may not feel ready, but my story could be exactly what someone else needs today”).
- Voice Notes over Perfection – Instead of sitting down to “write a book” straight away, record yourself speaking about your journey. Your raw voice often carries the truth more powerfully than overthinking.
- Tiny steps count – You don’t need to map out your whole book in one go. Start with a page, a memory, a moment of transformation. One story at a time eventually weaves into a book.
- Write for you first – Take the pressure off by remembering: your book is as much for your own healing as it is for others. Let your words hold space for you, too.
I am a big believer that we all go through what we go through, to be able to shine our own unique light on it, so that others can be inspired and learn from us.
