Living in the Now: Ground Yourself with Powerful Crystals by Jo Shipley

Bridge the Gap Between Longing and Living

If you’re like me, you can spend many hours of your life just waiting – waiting for the next holiday, the dream job, the right partner, a better house, or simply for things to ‘fall into place.’ We set our happiness on the horizon, convinced that contentment lies just around the corner. In doing so, it’s easy to fall into a quiet trap: the gap between what we hope for and where we are becomes a place of dissatisfaction. This gap can also block us from creating and attracting what we truly desire, and is a common reason why Law of Attraction and manifestation efforts often fail to materialise.

This mindset, though common, robs us of something precious – the present moment. When we live in a constant state of waiting or wanting, we overlook the small joys and opportunities unfolding right now. We miss the sunrise because we’re thinking about the weekend. We dismiss today’s peace because we’re chasing tomorrow’s perfection.

The truth is, nothing magical happens out there that makes life instantly better. Circumstances may change, but unless we’re grounded in the present, even the things we long for might feel hollow when they arrive.

One beautiful way to support yourself in reconnecting with the present is by working with grounding crystals. Smoky Quartz is known for its ability to anchor your energy and clear mental clutter, helping you feel more stable and connected. Black Tourmaline offers protection from distraction and emotional overwhelm, keeping you rooted in the here and now. Red Jasper is another gentle companion crystal, bringing a calming presence and a sense of trust in the moment.

These crystals don’t do the mental work for you – but they can serve as tangible, energetic helpers that allow the body to pause, breathe, and return to yourself.

Living in the now doesn’t mean giving up on dreams or settling. It means choosing to fully experience life as it is – messy, beautiful, uncertain, and real. It’s about appreciating your morning coffee, enjoying time with a friend, or feeling the ground beneath your feet during a walk. It’s choosing presence over postponement.

When we shift our attention from what’s missing to what’s meaningful in this moment, the gap begins to close. Life becomes less about ‘when’ and more about now – and that’s where true satisfaction lives.

A Grounding Ritual to Live in the Now

You’ll need:
A grounding crystal such as Smoky Quartz, Black Tourmaline, or Red Jasper.

  1. Find a quiet space.
Sit comfortably and hold your crystal in your hand or place it on your lap.
  2. Breathe and connect.
Close your eyes. Take three slow, deep breaths. Feel your feet on the ground and the crystal in your hand anchoring you.
  3. Be present.
Focus on the sensations around you – the temperature of the air, the sounds, your breath. Let thoughts come and go without holding onto them. Feel the energy of the crystal work with your body’s energetic field.
  4. Set an intention.
Silently say: “I am grounded. I am here. I am open to this moment.”
  5. Carry the feeling with you.
Keep the crystal nearby and return to the present whenever you need.
