Women in Midlife by Lucy Becks

Is it hot in here or is it just me? Can anyone else relate? Oh, the joys of being in menopause, the gift that keeps on giving!

As a woman currently in midlife myself, I’ve come to realise some significant key points about the change and what it may mean for us all who may be experiencing a different way of life now due to entering our forties and beyond. For some, the typical physical and hormonal symptoms may not be as severe as they may be for others, but as we have aged, the importance lies within how we navigate this time in our lives now and moving forward.

As women approaching, or who are currently in midlife; you may have started to notice your life taking a whole new direction, possibly leading you down different paths with new interests and new activities. I think it’s a time when we come to acknowledge what is truly important to us, not only in the present, but also in how we will steer our lives into the future.

Entering this decade of our 40s, the “naughty forties”, you may have recognised some physical changes in your body, or a decline in hormonal functions, experienced hot flushes, and perhaps even noticed a change in your brain function (brain fog)? How we react and intervene during this stage of our lives is so important, as it could have a huge effect on how we feel for the next few decades to come. What we needed in our twenties is not the same as to what we now need in our forties. The sooner we can accept this, we will then be able to tune into how we truly feel, and to then seek out what it is we need now we’re in our forties.

Through listening to our body’s needs and making relevant and crucial changes NOW could help us prevent certain illnesses, thereby promoting our future longevity. Cultivating healthy boundaries, removing certain rules and restrictions, letting go of stress patterns that we may be holding onto (often self-imposed), releasing what is no longer serving us, taking care of our mindset, and honing in on our health and well-being choices, could be the catalyst to feeling the best we have felt in a long time!

There is a rhythm to everything. In nature it’s the seasons, the moon’s ebb and flow, the ocean’s tides, the sunrises, and the sunsets. Rhythms within us are so powerful. Rhythmic cycles of each stage of our lives all having an enormous impact on our physical, mental health, and well-being. As in nature by actively embracing the shifts we can welcome the change more easily.

My parting words to women in all stages of life – FEEL THE RHYTHM, GET CURIOUS and remember who you are, and remember who you came here to be! REVITALISE YOUR LIFE. Life is happening right NOW!
