Calling all Headache and Migraine Sufferers! by Sarah Kottmann

Do you suffer from headaches and migraines? Sometimes it is hard to know what caused the headaches. There can be multiple reasons why a headache can come about, and if you are suffering from headaches frequently, then this is something to explore further. As for diet, lifestyle, muscle tension, misalignment, hormones can all play a part in headaches.

Stress headaches or tension headaches – often found at the front of the head like a band around the head. Worse when doing work or overstraining. It’s usually a dull sensation, not sharp or throbbing. Rest and meditation will often support this type of headache. Also, homeopathic Nux vomica can be an excellent acute remedy to use.

Lack of sleep headache: Headaches can often be caused by insomnia or long period of not sleeping well. Addressing the reason why you are not sleeping well through homeopathy, herbs, nutrition or craniosacral therapy will help to support these types of headaches.

Hormonal headaches – usually turn into migraines and come on at ovulation and during your menstrual cycle bleed. It can happen before, during or after. It often starts at the back of the head and moves across the top of the head. It can be sharp and throbbing. An estimated 60% of women experience hormonal headaches. A lot of factors come into hormonal headaches, and it comes down to healthy hormones. I use a combination of craniosacral and homeopathy to support women with hormonal headaches.

Skeletal headaches: Caused by a misalignment in the body when the facia is restricted or after an accident or surgery. I support this through craniosacral therapy by realigning everything loosening the restrictions.

Psychic headaches: These are often not spoken about but come from an overload of metaphysical energy we have stored. Often happening to a practitioner or those working in the healing industry. One has taken on too much from others and not released it, as the head contains the third eye and the crown chakra, these can become overloaded. Do meditation, reiki, energy healing or cutting the cords.

Dietary/ intolerance headache – Located at the front of the head, eyes and sinus area. It can also include congestion in the nose or postnasal drip. These headaches are associated often with food intolerance, most commonly dairy or gluten. But can also be pollen and other allergens. Once you give up the food and do a gut-healing, the headache should go away completely. If related to pollen or other irritants, a constitutional homeopathic can normally address the overreaction by the body.

Coffee headache: Caffeine affects the blood flow to the head; it also dehydrates you. Having too much caffeine can cause headaches, and going cold turkey can also cause a foggy, dull headache. Some people cannot process caffeine through the liver, and the build-up can cause ongoing health side effects such as headaches. If giving up coffee, do it slowly, I often give people CQ10 to get them past the headache phase of giving up coffee, as it stops the headaches and the fatigue.

Dehydration headache: Not drinking enough water can cause headaches, but these types of headaches will usually go if you drink and rest.

These are just a few of the many styles of headaches and migraines. You don’t have to suffer in silence, healing and getting rid of headaches and migraines for good, is a passion of mine as a migraine sufferer myself, I understand how debilitating they can be.
