REIKI & REST by Kim Lorraine Russell

The importance of rest is that it creates well-being. As we rest, the entire body finds space for calm and pause. Acknowledging the beauty of rest is an underlying current of self-intuition. Our intuition carries many understandings, and to simplify this, we need to rest and let go of the mind’s interpretation. Our busy minds often confuse us, leading us to seek analytical responses. This is where we can learn to rest the mind’s thoughts and overthinking.

Our body is an amazing temple filled with unique cells, bones, bodily fluids, and muscles connecting to our major organs, especially our heart. Each breath we take sends a message of oxygen being accepted and released, often unnoticed. Now, let’s mindfully journey with our next breath, understanding that rest comes with a restful breath.

This simple exercise is marvellous for those moments when you hear yourself say, “I have no time to rest”:

Exercise:
Take your next breath, breathing in with the thought of rest.
Breathe out with a release or a yawn.
Breathe in another message of rest.
Breathe out, releasing thoughts of stress or busyness.
Breathe in the thought of rest for the entire body.
Breathe out, releasing tension or worry.
Utilise this exercise to create space for healing and rest with your next breath.

Some time ago, I was overwhelmed with motherhood and household chores. Endless cloth nappies, meals to prepare, high school children to the bus, and no time to rest.
This is where Reiki changed my life.

A massage therapist guided me to a tiny blue house where I met a woman conducting meditations. Learning the principles of meditation and rest opened a new pathway for self-healing. Though my busy routine hadn’t changed, Reiki and meditation taught me the gift of finding time to rebirth myself.

Reiki is a universal modality within the holistic wellness arena, carrying a simple approach of sending and receiving light to areas of darkness or stress. Studying Reiki became an essential necessary for me, with completing the Second Degree in Reiki back in 1988. Today my understanding has grown immensely throughout the years of healing and self-love. Learning the art of Reiki became a daily practice of sharing unconditional love and creating space for rest and has become the foundation of my practice and community work.
Reiki:
Rei – Universal Light
Ki – Energy (Prana, Chi)

In combination, we receive a universal energy force that transcends within and without the body. Reiki practitioners are now warmly accepted in hospital areas like a hospice with the understanding that Reiki can ease pain and restore comfort. Animals and plants know the secret of nature, creating calm and rest for themselves. Why do we wait for a crisis to rest?
Understanding rest for the body, combined with the new knowledge of Reiki, allows us to restore our insight and find a place for rest.
For today:
I am gentle and loving to myself as I look inward and breathe, finding space for rest and light energy. Rei-Ki.
This week:
Nurture and love yourself by doing something just for you.
Next month:
Learn the art of unconditional love and practice self-healing with a Reiki 1 Certificate Course with Kim Lorraine.
