PART 2-Overcoming the Fear of Being Seen by Lyndi MacRae

The MOST Neglected Piece of Networking is Followup

Continuing on from last month’s article:- Overcoming the Fear of Being Seen, The Art of Networking and Building Valuable Connections.

It’s important to address the elephant in the room…

FOLLOWUP!

How many networking events have you attended, shared business cards, had amazing conversations and then….

You return to the busy-ness of life, work, serving your community and those leads go cold.

Efficient communication done in the right timing matters here. Action this as soon as you get home or the next day at the latest. Or your connection goes cold.

Following up is crucial in networking, well in everything really. Yet it can be daunting for those who fear being seen as pushy or intrusive.

Or perhaps you’re feeling too tired after being on your feet for a few days with that expo?

You might feel, “I’ll do it tomorrow” is good enough. Your new leads are going colder by the minute.

The key is to follow up with a purpose.

It was invited after-all!

Send a personalised email or message referencing something specific from your conversation. Deliver the free resource you mentioned while chatting. Drop a quick text message after you send the email to let them know. This can be automated yet personal and non spammy.

Suggest a way to continue the dialogue, such as sharing an article or setting up a coffee meet, schedule an online meeting. Tools like a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) which does business automation, can help you organise your contact followup and remind you to follow up, making the process less overwhelming.

It’s easy to send an email with one or two contacts, however to ensure the consistency of the followup, to remember who you sent what to, then a business operations system can support you.

If you’re planning on doing more networking events and you’d like to develop a personal new connection followup process (no matter what system you’re currently using), book a chat (see the link below).

Be it manual or done with automation. You need this in place to get the most out of your new connections.

They’re waiting to hear from you, but don’t expect them to come chasing!

Their memory of you is fading…

Engaging despite the fear

In my experience, working to support the setup of business systems, engagement is where the fear of being seen often peaks. To overcome this, start small. Send out an email with the information you promised. Send emails to those who request it.

You’ll feel more confident at future networking events if you have an efficient followup system in place and you’ll feel more in control.

Delivering and receiving value with networking is a two-way street

Focus on how you can add value to your connections. This could be through sharing knowledge, offering support, or connecting them with others. As you focus on delivering value, you’ll find that the fear of being seen diminishes. You’re no longer just an individual seeking validation; you’re a valuable contributor to your network.

To wrap up last months article read Part 1 here:https://holisticblissmagazine.com/overcoming-the-fear-of-being-seen-by-lyndi-macrae/

The fear of being seen is a common obstacle in networking or growing your business online, but it’s not insurmountable. By shifting your focus from self-promotion to mutual value, setting achievable goals, and gradually stretching your comfort zone, you can transform networking from a source of anxiety to a source of opportunity.

Remember, every professional, at some point, has faced this fear. You’re not alone, and with each step, you’re not only building your network but also your confidence. So take that step, engage, and watch as your world expands with new connections and possibilities.

Followup! Is your #1 objective!
